An ear is the organ used by a human or an animal to detect sound waves. The term may refer to the entire system responsible for collection and early processing of sound (the beginning of the auditory system), or merely the externally-visible part. Not all animals have ears in the same part of the body. Audition is the scientific name for the sense of hearing. The organ of Corti is the actual organ of hearing... The principal damage mechanism to the human ear in industrialized society is exposure to elevated sound levels. Approximately ten percent of the population in industrialized societies have significant hearing loss or tinnitus, and millions more are steadily progressing to that outcome. Once it was thought that only extremely high...

    Ear Infections

    0
I just got an ear infection yesterday. It's strange how I haven't had an ear infection for a while. I had them as a little girl because I had a hole in my eardrum which I also had allot of surgery like tubes and the doctors also tried to close the hole in my eardrum over and over but it never closed it only closed for my right ear which these repeated surgeries left my left ear lots of hearing...

  • I have had ear issues all my life, I can't hear certain frequencies and my hearing is very sensitive... I had had an infection for a few months before I decided to stop hoping for it to get better on its own and visit the doctor. I went to my university medical centre and they prescribed me this Amoxocillin, which is from the Penicillin family, in the form of 21 capsules over seven days......

    Pressure in the ears

    2
I get "pressure" in my right ear when the weather changes (hot, cold, rain). If I put in a cotton ball, the pressure is relieved somehow. Most doctors cannot detect it - although my PCP/GP looked and noticed it was "cloudy" in my ear and said indeed that indicated "pressure". It will also happen if I eat hot or cold foods. The ear is often pressure-filled - more often than not.I use Nasonex and...

    Ears: Itchy and Wet

Almost every morning, I wake up with wet, itchy ears. It's inside, deep enough to need a q-tip to get relief. My mother always told me never to stick things in my ears, so I went to an ENT doctor. He said to just keep using the q-tips. He also gave me some ear drops but it didnt really help. So after I use the q-tip, they feel dry and less itchy, but a little sore and irritated. Does anyone...

    Sensitivity to noise

    0
Within the past 2 weeks, I have noticed that my left ear is more sensitive to sound than it usually is. I don't have ear "pain" per se, but noises like a metal spoon going around inside a metal pot sort of make me feel like someone is "hammering" inside my ear. It makes me cringe the way some people cringe at fingernails down a chalkboard or chewing on tinfoil. I have no redness, no drainage, no...
  • Hi, I'm new here, so please bear with me. About 3 weeks ago, my daughter accidentally yelled directly in my ear. It made my ear go quiet for about a second, then rang real loud, then felt muffled after that. Time went by and it continued to feel off. Still ringing, but not as loud, but ear still feels strange, and I can't pinpoint what it is. I went to primary care doc and ENT and nobody saw...
