Our 7 yr old son has really bad odd, his behaviors is like that of a 12 yr old and positive reinforcement deffinately does NOT work...My husband and i are seriously at our wits end on what to do...He lies all of the time, steals, abuses(himself and others), he's extremely loud when he talks(like he doesn't know when to be quiet)...He takes ritalin 3x/day @ 15mg 3x/day, risperidone .25mg in am and .75mg at 6pm. I've all ready talked to his psychiatrist about taking him off of his risperidone and trying something different, and he said that if it doesn't change before i take him back at the beginning of december than he will change his meds...
I am just wondering what meds are out there that has a good success rate in dealing with odd?? And what ppl have realized that works in regards to disciplining, and just generally dealing with odd kids??
Thank you for your help, i appreciate it!

I'm trying to exercise daily. I was doing fairly well until I sprained my ankle 2 weeks ago but now I'm getting back on the horse. Today I walked over a mile with my arm weights that are about 22lbs total. I was out of shape and it was hard on my arms. I also did my 30 situps. I'm also going to drink a lot of water and try to eat healthy. I do tend to have a sweet tooth but I'm cutting...
My son was on risperdal for two, almost three years and I found that it didn't work very well for him.
They told me NO, beat him then we'll take him but unless you abuse him no deal. So now every three weeks they come to the house and talk to him. What a joke, the minute they address his behaviour he just tunes them out, turns his head like they aren't there. (which is exactly what we told them he would do) They have been very nice to us, empathetic even, but that doesn't help our quality of life. Any program they want him in, is a waiting list of four months to two years. Yeah, I look forward to waking up everyday :(
