Obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD) is a psychiatric disorder, more specifically, an anxiety disorder. OCD is manifested in a variety of forms, but is most commonly characterized by a subject's obsessive (repetitive, distressing, intrusive) thoughts and related compulsions (tasks or rituals) which attempt to neutralize the obsessions.

Has anyone else had a problem with working a full-time, regular job with their OCD? I had one and couldn't function in that environment because of my mind and my thoughts rapid, racing, and obsessive. Is this normal? I know that I seem very uneducated on this whole OCD thing but I don't start counseling until tomorrow.

Well, it isnt NORMAL per se...but it is for ocd. I don't have a full time job but when I did, it was a job where I had to see a lot of people and talk and "get to know them." I can handle some of that. I'm better than I used to be. But that was one reason I took part time work. It was just so hard to handle always being "up" for people.

tis the nature of the beast, luv. I had a full time job that i LOVED, and was forced out by Dr. orders due to my OCD and other dx. Long story- be glad to share it sometime.

My ocd helped me to be a good worker. Then i guess the panick attacks became so relentless that I was bound to colapse emotionally. To explain myself i did assembly ,you know repetative movements.

I had trouble with a staff job too. I'm working from home now, but not because of my OCD, just because it was a dream job of mine to have before the OCD came about. But when I was on staff I was constantly using disinfecting wipes on my phone and computer, hated when people touched my stuff, washed my hands constantly and took showers when I came home because I felt gross form using public bathrooms, thankfully I was able to hide a lot of it from my co workers. But I was also open and honest to them about my OCD and often joked about it, and that helped me in my own recovery, and also helped a fellow co worker start to get help with his own OCD!

I'm trying to exercise daily. I was doing fairly well until I sprained my ankle 2 weeks ago but now I'm getting back on the horse. Today I walked over a mile with my arm weights that are about 22lbs total. I was out of shape and it was hard on my arms. I also did my 30 situps. I'm also going to drink a lot of water and try to eat healthy. I do tend to have a sweet tooth but I'm cutting...
