Obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD) is a psychiatric disorder, more specifically, an anxiety disorder. OCD is manifested in a variety of forms, but is most commonly characterized by a subject's obsessive (repetitive, distressing, intrusive) thoughts and related compulsions (tasks or rituals) which attempt to neutralize the obsessions.

About 3 months ago I was in a major depression. I do not have OCD per my phsycologist who I asked about it. I just have the intrusive thoughts. Thoughts of attacking strangers and loved one's and even animals. It is more of an annoyance then anything because I have never acted or come close to acting on them. I just hate having them so I wanted to know if anyone could give me tips on how to lighten the load on my mind. I know I will never go through with any of them because they ae very very contrallable but like I said it's annoying to have them and I'd appreciate any help

I gave my 2 week notice last Friday 13th. Now to join you fine people in a life of leisure and nothing else to do but to look out for myself....is it just me or does that sound pretty boring? My goal was to live to retire and I guess having to take early retirement because of health reasons wasn't exactly the way I had planned things. I just can't stay in that building that is reeking mildew...

I'm trying to exercise daily. I was doing fairly well until I sprained my ankle 2 weeks ago but now I'm getting back on the horse. Today I walked over a mile with my arm weights that are about 22lbs total. I was out of shape and it was hard on my arms. I also did my 30 situps. I'm also going to drink a lot of water and try to eat healthy. I do tend to have a sweet tooth but I'm cutting...
I had the terrible intrusive thoughts of hurting loved ones, sexually abusing and others. I would play senarios over and over in my head. I too knew I wouldn't act on these horrid thoughts but felt like a bad person due to the fact these images would come even though I found them disgusting. I still am ashamed of these thoughts but at least now I can talk to my therapist the general idea of these intrusive thoughts. I have seen many therapists and have been misunderstood by some. I have been in therapy for 20 years due to major depression and anxiety. I finally have found a doctor who truly understands OCD and does not judge me in any way but reassures me these unwanted images do not define who I am as a person. Hang in...your not alone
Good luck!
When I just let thosr thoughts come and go and let the silence be my guiding voice I am at peace, even when I am very busy.
