Obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD) is a psychiatric disorder, more specifically, an anxiety disorder. OCD is manifested in a variety of forms, but is most commonly characterized by a subject's obsessive (repetitive, distressing, intrusive) thoughts and related compulsions (tasks or rituals) which attempt to neutralize the obsessions.

Hi. Im new to this community, i'm a long sufferer with GAD and Panic Attacks but recently i'm starting to wonder if i have OCD too.
I often have spontaneous disturbing thoughts about doing something horrible to myself or my loved ones, these really upsets me and seem to come out of the blue at any time. I realise this is not uncommon with anxiety and have always put it down to my GAD.
Also before I go to bed I spend about 20 minutes double and triple checking all the doors are locked and the cooker and appliances are switched off, my car is locked etc. (even if i know i haven't used them!) If i think of something i haven't checked I have to get out of bed and check it.
Doe's this sound like OCD or just 'careful'?

I'm trying to exercise daily. I was doing fairly well until I sprained my ankle 2 weeks ago but now I'm getting back on the horse. Today I walked over a mile with my arm weights that are about 22lbs total. I was out of shape and it was hard on my arms. I also did my 30 situps. I'm also going to drink a lot of water and try to eat healthy. I do tend to have a sweet tooth but I'm cutting...
we all have disturbing thoughts. sometimes we "dare" ourselves to think about them, but we react to this in different ways- some people shrug it off (like me) and never think about it again but some people get anxious about it- its really your choice if you want to get upset about it or not.
dont go to the doctor unless you're very distressed. i wouldnt go to the doctor anyway, since, as a psychology major i have learned that we dont know jack about ocd, regardless of what you've heard
