Obsessive Compulsive Disorder (OCD) Support Group
Obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD) is a psychiatric disorder, more specifically, an anxiety disorder. OCD is manifested in a variety of forms, but is most commonly characterized by a subject's obsessive (repetitive, distressing, intrusive) thoughts and related compulsions (tasks or rituals) which attempt to neutralize the obsessions.

I just started realising my son and hubby have OCD traits.
Whisper repeating: My six year old will say something then immediately whisper the same thing. Is this an OCD trait? His 8 year old brother just stated doing it too.
The 6 year old does several strange thing but the 8 year old doesn't--just this whispering thing. Such as:
1. He has to wear his socks 24/7 except when in the bath.
2. His PJ have to fit perfect or he changes. Sometimes he goes through 5 pair of PJ in one night.
3. Smells his food and it VERY picky.
Dad has many strange traits like worring about the stove or counting the knifes. If his sandwich isn't "layered just right he thows it away. etc.
ANy help appreciated.

All of that sounds ocd. The whispering is called echolalia and it happens with ocd and tourette syndrom. (Not suggesting he has ts!) The thing with the socks...my son does that. The thing with the pjs and the sandwich are also ocd related. Ain't it fun? Or at least funny if you can see it that way. I know it drives you nuts. How can it not? But it doesn't really hurt anything and so far it doesn't sound like a crisis, so I'd just wait it out. Compulsions tend to change over time. Or take them to a psychiatrist if it gets work and start working with meds. I think its about patience...of which I have none. So forgive the hypocrit!

Well, well. When my first born son started repeating in whisper at first I thought maybe he was getting what i got. Turns out he grew out of it just in time for his 1 year younger sister to start it up. She has now also grown out of it. It may very well be a problem and it did worry me badly but after thinking it through. Maybe they were just learning to think their words through. Making sure it came out right and as they got older they either dont care or do it naturally in their head like everyone does everynow and then. I am glad you wrote this.

my hubby does that all the time he has been on med for it and it didn't help so he is off them now and he still just keeps whispering all the time no matter where he is in stores, home don't matter its just him and it don't hurt him or anyone else.

I'm trying to exercise daily. I was doing fairly well until I sprained my ankle 2 weeks ago but now I'm getting back on the horse. Today I walked over a mile with my arm weights that are about 22lbs total. I was out of shape and it was hard on my arms. I also did my 30 situps. I'm also going to drink a lot of water and try to eat healthy. I do tend to have a sweet tooth but I'm cutting...
