My name is Mike Dias from Taunton, Massachusetts and I'm 36. I've been overweight most of my life and it's really starting to get to me. I have the desire to lose weight, but I just don't have the ongoing determination to stay on a diet. Can anyone give some advice? I've gone to Weight Watcher a couple of times, but just can't stick to it. Does anyone have some helpful tips to staying in focus on a diet?

A friend sent this to me..As far as I can see, grief will never truly end.It may become softer overtime, more gentleand some days will feel sharp. But grief will last as long as Love does - ForeverIt's simply the way the absence of your loved onemanifests in your heart. A deep longing accompaniedby the deepest Love some days. The heavy fog mayreturn and the next day, it may recede.Once again, it's...

Today is my 25th birthday, to my somewhat lack of surprise I can see already no one really seems to care. I've always been the kinda person to make sure that everyone I Care about feels appreciated and knew somebody had their back. I can count 4 times this year when I Went out of my way to make sure a "friend" felt good on their birthday, especially if they got left hanging. Its early in the...
I have only had mild success, but Jenny Craig really worked for me. I lost 50 pounds. Now I'm switching over to NutriSystem because they have a diabetic diet plan (I'm border line diabetic). I guess why it works for me is that you have someone to talk to about your struggles with one on one. Also, paying for the food-I know I have to eat it, not go buy junk food, or what was the point of my spending all that money? It helps me to be more honest with myself also if I keep a food journal. Then when I see I've gained a pound I'll look back and see where to improve. And sometimes I will have forgotten I went and had pizza or ice cream with friends...helps me to track my eating behavior, too. Good luck to you!
Something they said on Oprah the other day is so true. People don't get fat from the occassional binge. It's long term binges that make and keep you fat.
If you do small things first.... make sure you get 8 glasses of water and work out for even 10 minutes a day three times a week for the first week or two, then up it. It WILL work. You just have to be determined.
If you're a crack addict, you can WANT to quit all you want, but you have to put the crack down and stick to it.
It's the same with us. We have to put the FOOD down and do what we need to do.
Good luck!
I "think" you can sign up for a one week free trial online so no need to stand in line and weigh in with others. www.weightwatchers.com
First trip down the scales I went to TOPS (Take off pounds sensibly). They are more for support than for diet advice but the meetings are friendly and if you just need a little accountability it's a good place to start. www.tops.org will have a meeting locator.
Unfortunately, I gained back all the weight I lost at TOPS and THEN some before a friend nagged me into joining Weight Watchers with him. This was probably my 5th or 6th time on WW and I told him "I'll join for a month to prove to you WW doesn't work for me".
Famous last words, it's the first time in my life I ever reached goal and lifetime. My desire to prove my friend wrong meant I had to follow the plan exactly as written for a full month. That was the part that was missing for me in the past.
I ended up 50 pounds over goal when my old friends binge and closet eating resurfaced and now am working to get back down again.
Everyone finds what works best for them. This site is awesome for support and I also recommend a free site called www.sparkpeople.com which also has a free online food journal and great articles.
Whichever you decide on, keep posting here and let us know how you are doing.
