Hey guys! Can anyone tell me what restrictions there are to the lapband? How overweight do you have to be? I am interested in that or gastric bypass, but I don't know the limitations? Anyone know?

I'm trying to exercise daily. I was doing fairly well until I sprained my ankle 2 weeks ago but now I'm getting back on the horse. Today I walked over a mile with my arm weights that are about 22lbs total. I was out of shape and it was hard on my arms. I also did my 30 situps. I'm also going to drink a lot of water and try to eat healthy. I do tend to have a sweet tooth but I'm cutting...
BMI of 40 + or 35 with Co-Morbidities. These are problems caused by your Obesity. Sleep apnea, Diabetes, Asthma, etc.
If your BMI is lower you will do better with lap-band. The weight tends to come off slower.
Lapband is NOT any less invasive then the Bypass, in that they still have to work in your abdominal cavity. They do have to stitch the band in place to stop band slippage, so there is some trauma to the stomach, though it isn't cut.
Many people with higher BMIs who choose to go with the Lapband first are choosing to revise to a bypass due to insufficient weight loss.
Most of the requirements for either of these are from the insurance companies. If you are looking for insurance to cover the surgery then you'll have to abide by the requirements. If you pay out of pocket then the requirements won't matter so much with some surgeons.
God Bless!

I feel Lap-Band should have its own community here at DS and have asked several times. I hope they listen and allow for Lap Band as its own community. It's a very serious surgery as is GB and becoming more and more popular in the US.
