At a recent trip to the grocery store I realized just how much of the American food system is devoted to pre-packaged goods. In comparison to the other aisles the produce section is small.
I realize this is a product of the nuclear-family, industrialization, world trade, working families etc., but does anyone else feel it is excessive and a bit frightening ?
Not to mention the numerous diseases, genetic mutations (yes, TBHQ causes DNA altering), etc of substances the FDA allows in pre-made food...when does it end? When does the health of a nation become more important than a dollar? Because this is really the only question when it comes to healthy eating.
I feel that cultures are based around their agricultural and thus food systems. That community comes from the kitchen and that food is identity (in many ways). This is the basis for my question.

I completely agree with you!! Even when people actually read the nutrition labels on packaged foods to find the healthier ones, the ingredient list is too often ignored! It's hard to stay away from packaged foods completely but I'm definitely making an effort to eat more raw foods. We are living beings why eat 'dead' food?

The problem is that people don't know what they're looking and and don't know what to look for. When the media's differing people's attention to inaccurate paths to "health" like drinking wine every day...what should we expect! People are to simple - nobody's willing to do a little research.

I completely agree with you and I like JustBe, eat mostly raw.. once you start even to cut out the SAD (Standard American Diet) you will feel so good that you won't want to go back! Good luck!

how do you eat the non-SAD diet, Cause it is scary.

why do you think it is scary? The SAD diet is scary to me!

I'm trying to exercise daily. I was doing fairly well until I sprained my ankle 2 weeks ago but now I'm getting back on the horse. Today I walked over a mile with my arm weights that are about 22lbs total. I was out of shape and it was hard on my arms. I also did my 30 situps. I'm also going to drink a lot of water and try to eat healthy. I do tend to have a sweet tooth but I'm cutting...
