What exactly is a "sleep attack"? i've seen it mentioned on here and other places but haven't been able to find anything that actually discribes what it is.

the best way i can discribe it is when that super tired part of yourr brain takes over and theres nothing you can do to fight it and you just go into REM sleep for a little bit. I don't know if everyone's are like mine, because I've never acctually met anyone else with narcolepsy, but for me it starts at the base of my neck and it feels almost like my body is pulling me into sleep, I can sometimes fight it off for a little bit, but it ussually gets me after a few minuets, and I'm getting less and less able to fight it off. sometimes I wake up on my own, and sometimes someone else has to physichally wake me up...it really sucks, especially when you're like in class and no one you know, or no one that knows you have narcolepsy is around

hi! well, for me it is an overwhelming urge to sleep. if i ignore it, i will get a cataplexy attack! that will then lead into a sleep usually. it is just s very sudden feeling of tiredness and its the suddenness that makes it an 'attack' there is no build-up, or prior warning.

I just get this overwhelming feeling of sleepiness and can't usually fight it off. It sort of feels like someone closes your eyes I guess and I just go to sleep. I usually know when I've had a sleep attack because I don't feel as tired. It's horrible in class though because I feel like everyone's staring at me. And in really bad places like on the street or in a shop!

the ladies in here have explained it perfectly. For me I can still fight it pretty hard, I can feel it coming on and I usually put my head down at my desk or go into a exam room and lay down for a minute or two. I dont have full on cataplexy like they do, so that is probably why I can still fight mine.

I'm trying to exercise daily. I was doing fairly well until I sprained my ankle 2 weeks ago but now I'm getting back on the horse. Today I walked over a mile with my arm weights that are about 22lbs total. I was out of shape and it was hard on my arms. I also did my 30 situps. I'm also going to drink a lot of water and try to eat healthy. I do tend to have a sweet tooth but I'm cutting...
