As I stated on another thread, I have some symptoms of narcolepsy--EDS, can't stay awake during certain activities, occasional sleep paralysis. I understand that one of the smptoms is hallucinations and they are usually visual. However, I have heard a phone ring really often (and there's no phone ringing) upon waking up or a really loud noise and there was no loud noise. I know because my husband didn't hear a thing. Can these hallucinations be auditory as well as visual?
As I said in the thread below, I am scheduled for a sleep study (night time and day time) next week.
Thanks to anyone who answers this.

I'm trying to exercise daily. I was doing fairly well until I sprained my ankle 2 weeks ago but now I'm getting back on the horse. Today I walked over a mile with my arm weights that are about 22lbs total. I was out of shape and it was hard on my arms. I also did my 30 situps. I'm also going to drink a lot of water and try to eat healthy. I do tend to have a sweet tooth but I'm cutting...
I often hear (or think I hear) noises upon waking too. Usually, I think it's one of my cats that is meowing so I'll get up to see what's wrong only to find that they are asleep. Sometimes I think I hear the phone, occasionally I think I heard someone knocking on the door. My boyfriend is a very light sleeper and he never hears these noises.
I hope this helps you in some way - even if it's just to know your not alone & I understand how irritating it is =)
The visual ones are scarey though for me. Almost always a snake coming up at me from out of my bed. Sometimes a figure in all black standing over my bed.
Not funny.
Thats all though.

In the daytime I hear people calling me if I am having a very sleepy day.
Well, I'll keep you posted. You have all been so nice!
Thanks!
Stress, depression, and getting too little sleep can all cause symptoms similar to narcolepsy like EDS and audio/visual hallucinations.
I hope this helps. :)
I had the polysomnogram beginning around 10:30 pm Thursday until 6 am Friday morning. Then, I had an MSLT Friday. I had 5 naps every 2 hours, each nap lasting 1/2 hr.
I don't know the results yet. However, the tech told me that I reached REM during the 4th nap, I fell asleep in two minutes during all 5 naps and I reached deep sleep in 3 of the naps. During the first nap, I was in stage 1 or 2. He didn't offer a diagnosis, of course. My first nap was at 8:30 am and the last one was at 4:30 pm.
So, I guess we'll see. Something is going on, but I don't know if its narcolepsy or not. Obviously, I will have to wait until I get a diagnosis. I see my neurologist again on December 28 to discuss the results of the sleep study.
Thanks for the information. I sincerely appreciate it.
