Hi, I'm new here. I'm not really in the mood to fill out all the stuff yet, but assuming this site works out pretty well, I will do that. I have a lot of experiences and such to share.
I'm really frustrated. I got fired from my job today.. it was only the 5th week. I was proud of myself because I was no later than 15 mins in most cases, but obviously that wasn't good enough, even when I told them about my condition.
I have a pretty severe case of narcolepsy from what I understand, and I am completely sick of it. I don't even know what to do with my life anymore... things were just starting to get better, and now I don't even know what to do. I got fired from my last job.. I worked there 4.5 years.. they discriminated against me because of my narcolepsy. I'm only 27, and I am trying to finish my degree in college... but I feel like a failure today...
I can't even keep a job. I was the fastest learner and most knowledgable in my training class... everyone looked up to me. Yet I am the one fired with hardly any notice?? How can people supposedly see so much potential in me, but then just let me go like that? I was already starting to get overwhelmed with everything in my life.. and now I don't even know where to start or if I even have the strength to fix things.

I have been here before, a long long time ago and now I am back.Forgive me for not just saying what I want to say, even under a triple dose of antidepressants it is still raw and seeping and I am hesitant at revealing it as at least under the bandages around my heart I don,t have to look at how raw and wounded. My child was cleaved from my heart by his own actions. my child of ten, turning eleven...

theatre and I are there already. I'm having a very berry tea with crackers, cheese and cherry tomatoes and she's having a joint with some beer and we're both on really comfy recliners on thick pile carpet. we need some help with the decor if anyone is around??
I am very sorry this happened. I hope you will hang in there and know that people do care. Life gets so hard sometimes. I wish there was an instant fix all for what you are going through.

I am sorry to hear the bad news. I suffer from narcalespy and have done for 4 yrs, probable longer if I think back.
Ive been very lucky where my jobs concerned and they have supported me all the way. I work in a very high capacity and they have not discriminated me in any way. However Narcalespy has had its damaging effects in other ways that I care to imagine. And I would have given up my career if it had saved my marriage and home and the loss of my friends.
I have only been recently diagnoised with narcalespy. But when I was going back and forth the GP for almost 3yrs and all they were telling me was I was over weight and lazy. Its no wonder my partner left.....
If I could have changed the hands of time I would have.
So unfortunately Narcalespy has its effects on diffrent people in different ways.
The key here is not to give in.....
My world fell apart last year to the worst extremes but I have learnt you can either give in to it and be depressed or fight it with every beat of yr heart....
As for employers you will just have to roll the dice and be upfront with the diesase....and see what happens..
I hope that you find the job that will support you and not disappoint you.
good luck....

Narcolepsy is a recognized disability by the ADA, regardless of whether or not you or I or anyone else on the forum considers themselves disabled. The ADA act protects people with a wide variety of conditions from discrimination by employers.
Decide how much you like the job. If you really want it, get an ADA lawyer. You have satisfied the number one rule about the disability in the fact that you have told them about your condition. If you have that notice in writing then that is even better. I was recently diagnosed myself and am trying to figure out how to tell my employer.
Im lucky I still have my current one.
I hope you get new employment soon. Maybe you should delay telling your future employers about your N until your probation period is over.
