Im fairly new to MS and Ive been having the ups and downs with my legs. Spasms, fatigue, aches, pains and weakness. Can someone give me some statistics on MS patients and if, when and how long the average person takes to end up in a wheelchair? I know, I know..everyone is different, but it seems that every doctors appointment..the waiting room is filled with wheelchairs. Ive been to seminars and fundraisers..more wheelchairs. Im scared to death.I know that if it happens, it happens and I will deal with it, but Im just curious as to how long, if ever, it will take..because if how Im feeling now is any indication..Set me up tomorrow!

I'm trying to exercise daily. I was doing fairly well until I sprained my ankle 2 weeks ago but now I'm getting back on the horse. Today I walked over a mile with my arm weights that are about 22lbs total. I was out of shape and it was hard on my arms. I also did my 30 situps. I'm also going to drink a lot of water and try to eat healthy. I do tend to have a sweet tooth but I'm cutting...
I know the fear of going to meetings where lots of people are in wheelchairs. But let me just say this: I don't know what the statistics are but I have been in & out of a wheelchair a couple of times, used a walker for a time, used a cane. I have had MS for at least 35 yrs. Presently I can walk without the cane but I can't walk for long periods of time. I am a little unsteady because of dizziness but my legs are strong. I don't know what the future holds but at this point in time I am doing fine. I figure if the good Lord wants me to be walking when I'm 80, then I will be able to walk until then. But if I have to be in a wheelchair, there are lots of people in wheelchairs who do good in the world. So never give up. Do what you can & if you can't do certain things, then find something else you can do to keep going. I have learned to do lots of things that I never would have considered before I found out I had MS. I was a biker, hiker, camper type. I got really scared & depressed when I thought I might not be able to do those things anymore. But eventually I found other interests & learned how to do other things that make me feel productive. Hope this helps.
