Question - Flares Sensory vs. Strength, etc

kazinmich
Most of my symptoms are considered sensory (burning/numbness/tingling, etc). However I know that I have lost muscle strength, and weird little things. Like I can't flip someone off with my left hand, my middle finger won't go straight, although my right middle finger just works fine. It's odd things like this. I pass my neurological test with flying colors, however I tell my neuro, it's not the same. I used to be able to walk on my heels no problem, now I can't. I never felt like I would fall over during tippy-toing (and scared i might not be able to that day) but now I avoid it.
I'm a little concerned because, yes, I am able to push this, shrug that - but it's not as strong as I used to be. Maybe it's because I've it my mid thirties, or maybe it's MS. Either way I'm told it's all sensory. How do I explain my frustration of not being as strong as I was, or stable, sturdy? How do i explain I used to bench press 100 lbs now it's more like 40??? Yes, i can still lift if I need to, but now it's hard and some days I really can't do it.
Should I be concerned? Or is this normal?

I'm trying to exercise daily. I was doing fairly well until I sprained my ankle 2 weeks ago but now I'm getting back on the horse. Today I walked over a mile with my arm weights that are about 22lbs total. I was out of shape and it was hard on my arms. I also did my 30 situps. I'm also going to drink a lot of water and try to eat healthy. I do tend to have a sweet tooth but I'm cutting...
I have had few (maybe 3 in 10yrs) full out identifible exacerbations. (optic neuritis once). But yet i am a spastic hemi, unsteady, use a cane, one sided weakness etc etc.
i recently was a new neuro who described my history as steps. i went down a step (in abilities) and then leveled off for a while, then down another step and leveled off, etc. I's not textbook RR MS, nor textbook progressive MS. More a combination.
Treatment?? Try to stay healthy, eat rest exercise.Be agressive when you feel the sniffles.Stay on one of the drugs- maybe ask to change Rx, maybe ask to do a interferon neutralizing antibody blood test to make sure ur body is able to use the med's. and stay positive. i know my note is long (and depressing when i read it!) but i really consider myself a positive person, and work to stay that way everyday. I don't watch the news because it's so upsetting and depressing... i don't regularly go to MSchats or message boards (even this one!)because i find them so upsetting and negative. The other positive point i keep in mind - NEW MED'S ARE JUST AROUND THE CORNER!
good luck!
I have no feeling from the chest down & there is nothing that can be done. Someone has to check my skin for breaks & tears every day.
