I just received the results of my spinal tap FINALLY and am told that it was negative. Has this happened to anyone. I don't understand, my MRI was positive for MS and I have a ton of symptoms, numbness in both legs, weakness, blurry vision, numbness on the left side of my face, lack of coordination, headaches. I don't get it. Any advice?

if i understand this correctly, a lumbar puncture only shows elevation during an active time in your ms. I was just the opposite. my mri's have all been negative except for my optic nerve, but my LP was nuts.

when mine was done, they had results for 3 different factors..the first one came back ok but then the other 2 had certain enzymes, or something along those lines, which indicated MS...was your test broken down into categories?

I am not really sure yet. I just received a phone call. I actually go in and talk to my neuro on Monday for an apt, so hopefully I will know more then.

my spinal tap came back neg. also but my mri was positive. my neuro told me that sometimes if you are still early in the disease the spinal will come back neg. because of the lesions on my brain and my symptoms I was given a positive dx. of ms. I have talked to alot of people since my dx. who have ms and also recieved a neg. spinal tap. good luck.

Interesting... did you get put on maintenance medication even though your spinal tap was negative?

My mom and I have MS she was diagnosed over 10 years ago and had a negative spinal. I was diagnosed in 2004 and I had a posotive spinal.

yes, my neuro believes you should treat ms quickly and agressivly.

i also had a negative spinal tap with elevated protien levels. I think that shoild be good news that the blood brain barrier has not yet been compromised. I hope that the meds will keep me that way too. The bands in one of the tests was my doctors convincing result.

I haven't had the ol' lumbar puncture yet. I was still dx's by the MRI, and my symptoms. They started me on meds right away.

Today is my 25th birthday, to my somewhat lack of surprise I can see already no one really seems to care. I've always been the kinda person to make sure that everyone I Care about feels appreciated and knew somebody had their back. I can count 4 times this year when I Went out of my way to make sure a "friend" felt good on their birthday, especially if they got left hanging. Its early in the...
