Hi All, I'm in the process of my 3 year review for SSDI. I'm so annoyed with the woman who is processing my disability. She keeps sending me packets asking for more information. I have cognitive issues and I don't understand what she wants with some of it. I called her this week and she didn't even call me back (been 3 working days). I wrote her a letter telling her all of this. My dad and I were talking about what else I could do and he suggested copying my Congress woman. I forgot that is what I did in 2004.
So, I'm writing to tell anyone going through this. Make sure to copy your Congress Person with what you send to SS. What I found out back then, is that by including your Congress person, you get a checkmark by your name and they give it more attention than those who don't. Why, because they have to report to the Congress person as to what is going on with your case. I don't know if this will help before the initial 6 month rejection, but it certainly won't hurt to try.
Also, if you don't need to hire an attorney - don't. Most of the people I've talked to have not been helped by the attorneys. Once you sign with an attorney they get a maximum of $5200 from your back payments from SSDI. So, they aren't really motivated to help you solve it quickly. Maybe there are some good SSDI attorney's out there, but mine was terrible. She showed up at my appeal hearing with a pile of papers she hadn't gotten around to submitting. I had given her all of the info. months prior. I was awarded disability because I made the judge laugh and listen and understand what I was dealing with.
If anyone has a positive experience with SSDI. I would love to hear it!

I'm trying to exercise daily. I was doing fairly well until I sprained my ankle 2 weeks ago but now I'm getting back on the horse. Today I walked over a mile with my arm weights that are about 22lbs total. I was out of shape and it was hard on my arms. I also did my 30 situps. I'm also going to drink a lot of water and try to eat healthy. I do tend to have a sweet tooth but I'm cutting...
I got my SSDI, no help from him. He was 30 minutes late to my hearing. Jerk!
I did choose her because she appeared at the MS society newly diagnosed meeting, and I remembered her name y the time I needed her. Maybe checking to see who works with the MS society in you area would help those that still have not applied, and want an attorney.
I'm so glad to hear someone who had a positive experience. I went to check your profile to see where you lived. I thought my attorney was doing a lot, she even met with me before we went in. She didn't tell me she hadn't filed a 3 inch thick pile of papers for me. The judge was really mad at her. I was ok with her getting paid until that happened.
You got SSDI 10 years ago, have you had any 3 or 7 year reviews?
now my attorney is requesting that social security aprove him billing me for $1500
Thanks,
Jan
He is a doctor for the NMSS in Southern Cal. but I'm sure any Neurologist would still carry more weight than the normal SSDI docs.
What a Blessing! Seemed like it took forever though. In the waiting process I just kept getting worse. I have RA..diabetes,Hi BP,herniated disk in my neck, had surgery in the lumbar area fusion of 4 disks & cage. & then being tested for MS.. which I have so many symptoms, MRI, MRA, next week neuro. The Dr. is almost sure it is MS but.. well most of you know the routine. Anyone having trouble getting help I would recomend ALLSUP.. I did have to pay $5000.00 however I will get a lump sum & the payment is out of that. IT is well worth it! Good luck any one going through this. I really think they hope people will give up or die first..
