MAINE: In August of 2005 I was in the ER at the hospital with an infection on my stomach they called it CELLULITIS. They treated it with opening the wound, draining it, packing it and putting me on antibiotic called SULFAMETH/TRIMETH/BACTRIM.
I have had the following symptoms for the past few years - become worse with time: cellulitis, boils, abscesses, and stys. I have visited the ER for all of these items in the past year!
About a week ago I had a red lump appear on my chest - looked like a spider bite. It become very hot, red, swollen, infected and opened into pus. I went into the local ER and they swabbed it and 48 hours later, this afternoon, it came back as positive for MRSA.
The local ER doctor has prescribed me DOXYCYCLINE 100mg 2x daily. I don't know if this is the right course of action or not. We have had numerous outbreaks here in Maine in the past few months and the news-media is talking about it more and more.....
I'm new to this... diagnosed today... needless to say, I'm scared and paniced. Would appreciate any feedback.
Thanks,
WB

I'm trying to exercise daily. I was doing fairly well until I sprained my ankle 2 weeks ago but now I'm getting back on the horse. Today I walked over a mile with my arm weights that are about 22lbs total. I was out of shape and it was hard on my arms. I also did my 30 situps. I'm also going to drink a lot of water and try to eat healthy. I do tend to have a sweet tooth but I'm cutting...
COVER WOUNDS, KEEP HANDS CLEAN WITH GERMICIDAL SOAP, USE PURELL PUMP ON HANDS, IT KILLS MRSA, AND DON'T SHARE YOUR TOWELS,ETC WITH OTHER PEOPLE. ALSO, KEEP VERY WELL INFORMED ON YOUR SENSITIVITY PATTERNS, IT IS YOUR LIFE AT STAKE.
BY THE BY, IT ALMOST DID ME IN IN SEPT IN MY FACE. I CONTRACTED IT AT WORK IN THE LABORATORY. IRONIC, HUH? GREAT RETIREMENT GIFT!! GOOD LUCK!
Clean, clean, clean. Best advice I have read and I'm still scared myself, clean house surfaces that you touch with bleech solution, especially bathroom and bedroom area. Change sheets daily, change towels daily. Do not allow anyone in your house to share your personal items, i.e. razors, soap, etc. GEt new toothbrush, use rubbing alcohol on toothbrush to kill germs, as well on razors if you re-use them. Keep your body clean, shower or bathe daily. Suggested to me to add 1/2 cup bleech to my bathwater at least once a week. The virus colonizes in our nostrils, ask your doctor about bactrim nasal antibiotic it may kill it, they don't know yet, works in some. Carry antibacterial wash with you and clean hands when in public, MRSA can live on surfaces for 30 days, i.e. shopping carts, handrails, etc etc.
Hope this helps, God Bless and Good luck.
Good luck and big hugs
