Yes. Thanks, Bella. We who mourn mothers must realize the many who mourn other family members. But since this is a "Motherless Daughter" group, perhaps an interesting point is to remember the MOTHERS who mourned losses during wars - or waited painfully until their loved ones returned. Thanks - to those who have served - abroad, at war - and on the home front - all through the years.

I visited my parents at their grave in the local National Cemetery yesterday. I bring flowers and a flag for them, as my father was a vet who cherished his flag. It is getting easier to visit them, not the tear filled event it was in January. I am developing more interest in Dad's war record, and reading the large amount of info he left about it.
Mom did her duty during WW2 also, giving blood, working in a defense plant, writing to her 5 brothers away at war. I think of what they went thru, and know that we will survive the hard times we have now.

My mother was in the Navy in WW2; she served at Great Lakes, Michigan. I found a few letters from one of her friends who had joined a few months before my mom did, describing her experiences; I'm so glad she kept them. My father is also a Veteran; he too was in the Navy in WW2 and was a Corpsman on a ship off the coast of France - I shudder to think about all of the wounded soldiers he saw and helped.
