Has anyone ever had a young child diagonsed with mono? After several weeks of "virus" like symptoms and trips back and forth to the Dr., I found 2 large lumps on the side of my 4 year olds neck Monday morning. After another visit to the Dr. and blood work, she had a positive mono spot and elevated liver enzymes. She's having bad headaches, body aches and her face is quite swollen, especially her eye sockets. The pediatrician wants us to start her on Prednisone steriod therapy to bring down the swelling. She's taking Tylenol with Codeine for the headaches along with Children's Motrin. I've been advised to pull her out of pre-school to avoid possible injury to the spleen. The school denies that any other young children have had this although acknowledges that there have been some cases in elementary aged kids. I was very suprised at this diagnosis for a child so young.
