On March 10th I had a D & C and was about 12 1/2 weeks along. During a routing ultrasound no heartbeat detected. As of today (4 weeks, 2 days later) I am still spotting. I just had more blood work done Monday and my HCG is down to 17. Last week it was at 40. I would like to avoid another D & C. My dr is sending me for an u/s but personally I think I would like to wait one more week and check my HCG again. Is this normal for this to go on this long? Also I had stopped spotting for a few days and then it started back up again but started up like a period. could I have had a period before my levels went down to normal??
I am so confused. Any advise would be appreciated.

I had a natural miscarriage starting on March 11 through around the 20th. I was 6 weeks along at the time. Very light normal period bleeding and not much else. My HCG levels are very slow to come down as well. At highest they were at 850, then came down to 590, then 350, then 250 and the latest drop after an entire week it was at a 59. I had a few U/S to check to see if any tissue was left, but they couldn't find anything. They told me that I don't need to monitor anymore once it is below 100 and I should just wait for my period. I guess I just want to let you know that my levels are taking a long time to come down and a few women in this group have told me theirs have too, so you're not alone. Please keep me posted on your progress. I'm curious too-- if they believe you might need another D&C when you are at 17, then I don't know why they told me that I don't need to be monitored anymore.

Sometimes, depending on the situation, your body can absorb the tissue, that is what was probably going to happen with my first, but I opted for the D&C, just for mental reasons. I was a wreck. You can have a period while your HCG is up, mine was still a tiny bit high when I had my first cycle. The D&C is completely a personal choice, I don't recommend it, nor do I discourage it. I have talked to some women who found it helpful to pass on your own, I just know that I couldn't. Some wanted a natural misarriage, but it never happened. Their bodies absorbed the tissue

I finally just talked to my dr and not his nurse about an hour ago and things are a little more clear now. He is OK with the HCG levels where they are now but he knows I want to conceive asap and IF there is some tissue left he would like to know now and not later down the road. He says it would be better to have another D & C to get any tissue that may be left or I could possibly not conceive. So next week I will go for an u/s just to check but for now I am going to stop worrying why it is taking so long for the bleeding to stop and hormones to go down. Now I wonder how long until I start ovulating again. My dr. doesn't seem to think I had a period but I think I just did. It wasn't the normal brown spotting. It was red blood. (Sorry for being so graphic)

First off, so sorry for your loss sweetie. I had a similar situation but it happened at 10 weeks for me. Hang in there and see what happens at the ultrasound. I didn't bleed for 60 full days and they thought they would have to go back in there. Then I started bleeding HEAVILY (to the point I thought I'd have to go to the ER) for nearly 3 weeks straight. Had another U/S and there was lots of blood stuck in my uterus. They gave me another month to see what would happen and my next period was heavy but more normal. Another U/S after that and the blood was all gone. All in all, we had to wait 9 months till we could TTC again. I hope it's a lot less for you. Sometimes it's hard to be patient and just wait for your body to right itself, but get a second opinion before another operation.

I gave my 2 week notice last Friday 13th. Now to join you fine people in a life of leisure and nothing else to do but to look out for myself....is it just me or does that sound pretty boring? My goal was to live to retire and I guess having to take early retirement because of health reasons wasn't exactly the way I had planned things. I just can't stay in that building that is reeking mildew...

I'm trying to exercise daily. I was doing fairly well until I sprained my ankle 2 weeks ago but now I'm getting back on the horse. Today I walked over a mile with my arm weights that are about 22lbs total. I was out of shape and it was hard on my arms. I also did my 30 situps. I'm also going to drink a lot of water and try to eat healthy. I do tend to have a sweet tooth but I'm cutting...
