After reading kyspier's post and others' messages about pregnancy after miscarriage, I was wondering if there is a true medical reason why women are advised not to ttc until they have at least one regular menstrual cycle. From what I've read and been told by my doctor/nurses, the reasons to wait are:
1. to give your body time to recover (which includes, for those who don't have a D&C, time to allow the m/c to run its course and completely clear out as well as time to make sure your hCG levels to decrease);
2. to wait for you to resume ovulation (which the period is supposed to indicate);
3. to allow you to recover emotionally;
4. to allow medical professionals to track gestation more accurately (because they need to know day 1 of your menstrual cycle).
These are the only reasons I've been given. Does anyone know of others?
My husband and I aren't anxious to ttc again; however, we are reluctant to use condoms (the only bc method we could use short-term). Okay, let's be honest: he is more reluctant tan I to use condoms. :-) So I was wondering, should we opt not to use condoms, whether there are medical/health repercussions to getting pregnant soon after a m/c (if the planets align/four-leaf clovers sprout around our bed/rainbows arch over my uterus and we happen to get pregnant before we ttc).
Thanks for any insights you can share!

I'm trying to exercise daily. I was doing fairly well until I sprained my ankle 2 weeks ago but now I'm getting back on the horse. Today I walked over a mile with my arm weights that are about 22lbs total. I was out of shape and it was hard on my arms. I also did my 30 situps. I'm also going to drink a lot of water and try to eat healthy. I do tend to have a sweet tooth but I'm cutting...
Good luck to you!!!
I'm not yet sure what we'll do (and I say this knowing that I'll be the one making the call). We are waiting until all the bleeding stops. then I want to get through my post m/c exam. Then, I suppose, we'll just play it by ear. If there's no medical danger to going without condoms, I'd rather do that. Not that I expect to conceive, but my husband prefers being sans wrapper. And, really, I feel much closer to him that way, too. (Like jsm16, I apologize if that was TMI!)
i now found out today i am pg again, only 1 period after mc...so fingers crossed!!!
We chose to try again after I got my period but it still took a couple cycles to get pregnant after the first loss. Unfortunately, this pregnancy is ending in a blighted ovum--which is completely unrelated to when I conceived.
Please think about whether you are ready to face the possibility of not just another pregnancy, but another loss. I thought I was ready but I've been floored by this second one. I really didn't think I'd have multiple losses so I'm having a much more difficult time emotionally now.
I wasn't a good monkey at all...I didn't wait the 2 periods...I pretended I did but started having unprotected sex the month after my first period. I would say eat right, eat healthy, take all of your vitamin supplements and just have fun and enjoy yourself without the party hat.
