Migraine Headaches Support Group
Migraine is a neurological disease, of which the most common symptom is an intense and disabling episodic headache. Migraine headaches are usually characterized by severe pain on one or both sides of the head and are often accompanied by photophobia (hypersensitivity to light), phonophobia (hypersensitivity to sound) and nausea.

A little background: Just moved, I love where I live, where I work, who Im with. I do not belive my migrains are stress related as they were in high school.
The pain never goes away, and has three levels
1 - manageable, can function
2 - tolerable but extremly difficult, all activities are slowed to a smails pace
3 - on my ass not a thing can be done
Triggers: Strong smells, bright lights, sneezing, trains, photcopiers, loud noises, brusing hair and teeth
Maintainers: leaving smelly areas, wearing sunglasses, hats, banadanas, continous medicating
I am hopeful that the new perventative meds will help but that will take 3 - 6 weeks from what I understand.
How do I maintain the first level while at the work place?

I'm trying to exercise daily. I was doing fairly well until I sprained my ankle 2 weeks ago but now I'm getting back on the horse. Today I walked over a mile with my arm weights that are about 22lbs total. I was out of shape and it was hard on my arms. I also did my 30 situps. I'm also going to drink a lot of water and try to eat healthy. I do tend to have a sweet tooth but I'm cutting...
You try to clear it with your boss to be able to wear sunglasses. (Get a doctor's note)
Make sure your monitor has a high refresh rate (most new ones do). If you have fluorescent lights in the office, and your monitor doesn't already have a built in glare coating - you are going to want to invest in a glare-screen. (Or see if you can get the job to invest in one for you.) The fluorescent lights flicker off of the monitor.
You have me wondering. This may sound odd, but when I am in Wal Mart, I begin to feel back, headachey and very fatigued? It is not consistent though. I have only noticed it in this store, but I am gonna start paying attention elsewhere. Any thoughts?
Craft stores are the worst.
Walmarts are next.
Grocery stores.
Just any place where the ceiling goes on for miles and miles, and the floor is completely waxed tile. The whiter the tile, the worse it is.
you say the pain never goes away. That's how I was about a year ago. My neurologist told me to cut out all painkillers including triptans (yes, it scared me too!!) and do it cold turkey. I was worse for about a week, and had to plan for it.
His theory was that the painkillers were adding to and even causing the migraines and other headaches. He also said cut out all caffeine. He said that the preventatives don't work when you are taking painkillers or caffeine.
I wasn't cured immediately by this (still not) but I did realise almost immediately that my migraines were no worse so none of the painkillers had been working.
I also went on topamax, which cut out the migraines from more or less daily to about five a month, most of which were only bad for about two to four hours and never lasted more than 24 hours.
Unfortunately, I couldn't cope with the side effects of topamax any longer, and couldn't take the 100mg recommended dose at all. I was on 50mg for 9 months, and think it was worth it.
Good luck, and try to keep a close eye on triggers (try a diary); I know it's not easy.
