Hello, I am currently on Zomig for migraines and Effexor XR for anxiety. I read up on both of the Medications and it says that taking both could cause severe medical issues (serotonin syndrome, which is a rare but serious and potentially fatal condition thought to result from hyperstimulation of brainstem 5-HT1A receptors.)
I talked to my doctor about this and he said that drug companies say that to cover themselves. He said it was safe to take both. The pharmacist didnt say anything either when i filled both Rx's.
I have taken them both twice now and i have felt fine but I am worried about the long term effects.
I was wondering if anyone else was on both a prescription for anxiety/depressing and for Migraines.
Thanks!

I'm trying to exercise daily. I was doing fairly well until I sprained my ankle 2 weeks ago but now I'm getting back on the horse. Today I walked over a mile with my arm weights that are about 22lbs total. I was out of shape and it was hard on my arms. I also did my 30 situps. I'm also going to drink a lot of water and try to eat healthy. I do tend to have a sweet tooth but I'm cutting...
Just make sure that you watch how you feel when there is a dose increase in the Effexor.
Serotonin Syndrome isn't something where you have to worry about long term effects. It is sudden onset, and you'll know something is very wrong, or the people around you will - if you don't realize it. Once you are diagnosed, they'll treat you for any symptoms/problems- and take you off the meds.
Symptoms of Serotonin Syndrome:
* Restlessness
* Hallucinations
* Loss of coordination
* Fast heart beat
* Rapid changes in blood pressure
* Increased body temperature
* Overactive reflexes
* Nausea
* Vomiting
* Diarrhea
