Migraine Headaches Support Group
Migraine is a neurological disease, of which the most common symptom is an intense and disabling episodic headache. Migraine headaches are usually characterized by severe pain on one or both sides of the head and are often accompanied by photophobia (hypersensitivity to light), phonophobia (hypersensitivity to sound) and nausea.

Hello!!
I'm new here, and new to migraines. I had my first one on Oct 22, and my second today (25th). Fortunately for me, I'm pretty sensitive to meds, and rarely take them, so the 2 Advil Liquid Gels work, and just leave a slight tell-tale sign that the migraine's still there, but it's tolerable.
I actually didn't find out that my first migraine WAS one until I took some pills in desperation. I Thought it was nerve pain in the eye (I have a host of other nerve pains, so it's not an unreasonable thought), so I didn't bother taking Advil for 4.5 hours.
This probably sounds pretty sissy to a lot of the people here (with Advil being enough to help), but I am new to this world, and not sure about some things.
For a couple of hours before the headache, things have appeared brighter yet blurrier in the eye that ends up being effected, would that be considered aura? No streaking lights, or anything like that, everything just seems brighter in that eye. Also, pain in typically present from my cheekbone up past my temple and into my eye, on the affected side, is that normal? Am I even in the right place?
I can't think of other questions right now (just waiting on the Advil), but I know I have more. This is just a completely new world to me, and I can't imagine why, at almost 33, I am having my first migraines. Odd!! And no, life isn't particularly stressful right now!
Thanks for any insight!
Christine

I'm trying to exercise daily. I was doing fairly well until I sprained my ankle 2 weeks ago but now I'm getting back on the horse. Today I walked over a mile with my arm weights that are about 22lbs total. I was out of shape and it was hard on my arms. I also did my 30 situps. I'm also going to drink a lot of water and try to eat healthy. I do tend to have a sweet tooth but I'm cutting...
Loss of vision in one or both eyes can also happen.
Unilateral pain presenting from the cheekbone into the eye? Yep. Although you have to be careful with that, because sometimes folks with pain in cheekbones can be having sinus issues.
And sinus headaches may not cause migraine aura, but when any headache gets bad enough - it can cause a sensitivity to light.
Maybe see if pairing an Advil with a Sinus Med could help with the rest of the pain?
Check with a doc to be diagnosed.
Take what works for you, but don't take abortive meds (that includes Advil) more than 2-3 days a week.
If you start having more than two a month, you want to get on some kind of preventative treatment regimen to stop the cycle.
(Did you recently have kids, start OR stop birth control or any hormone therapy, OR start any new kind of medicine (sometimes people start getting them with other medication)
Take care,
Laura
I find that things looking brighter starts well before the "lighting coming out of my eye" feeling, a few hours at least. I'm particularly in tune with my body right now, since I have been having "nerve issues" for some time, and have been trying to keep track of what's happening with me, otherwise I may not have noticed the connection.
Man, I hope loss of vision doesn't happen, I have 2 little munchins to take care of! No matter how temporary, with a 3.5 year old, a 2 year old a huge dog and 4 cats (3 of them kittens), someone would very likely get hurt.
I'm wondering (and hoping) that this could be related to the fact that we're currently going through a stomach bug in our house. I just don't know. I'll make a point of mentioning it to my doc the next time I see her (which is never too far away LOL).
Thanks again everyone
Christine
