Menopause is the physiological cessation of menstrual cycles associated with advancing age. It normally occurs in women between the ages of 45 and 55, when the body begins to slow and stop the production of eggs, estrogen and progesterone production decreases, and menstruation diminishes, eventually stopping altogether.

I just looked up the definition of perimenopause because I was confused about the whole thing with menopause being only one day and that one day was a year after your last period and this is what I found in a medical dictionary:Perimenopause is the period around the onset of menopause that is often marked by various physical signs (as hot flashes and menstrual irregularity). What this tells me is you are beginning to have "symptoms" of menopause, i.e., the hot flashes and menstrual irregularity. So from what I have read and learned working in the medical field, perimenopause is the onset of menopause. Many, many women have menopausal symptoms or are in menopause for a long time. Again, from what I have read, learned and am experiencing, menopause is just not one day. I wish it were!

I'm trying to exercise daily. I was doing fairly well until I sprained my ankle 2 weeks ago but now I'm getting back on the horse. Today I walked over a mile with my arm weights that are about 22lbs total. I was out of shape and it was hard on my arms. I also did my 30 situps. I'm also going to drink a lot of water and try to eat healthy. I do tend to have a sweet tooth but I'm cutting...
if its been 6 years you are post menopausal, and this is the time that if you are one of the lucky ones your symptoms should start to go away, except for vaginal symptoms that usually get worse without treatment.
I'm losing pubic hair too.
Have you tried anything over the counter for your symptoms? I've been reading good things about a soy drink called "revival" a lot of women say it helps them.
I had just started black cohosh but I think it was the cause of my heartburn I started getting.
I was reading this morning about a case of possible liver damage from black cohosh too so I guess there are risks to everything, even the natural stuff.
I just ordered a supplement called "women's wellness" It's mostly made of soy protiens. I'll let you know if it does anything for me.
Let me know if the black cohosh does anything for you.
I believe you are in menopause when you stop your periods altogether and they stay gone for 12 months in a row. Then I guess you go into post menopause. Not sure.
So, yes perimenopause is a long process for some women. I excercise and take vitamins and try to eat right. That does help my symptoms.
