Menopause is the physiological cessation of menstrual cycles associated with advancing age. It normally occurs in women between the ages of 45 and 55, when the body begins to slow and stop the production of eggs, estrogen and progesterone production decreases, and menstruation diminishes, eventually stopping altogether.

Hi. I'm 49 years old and am pret-ty sure I'm in the throes of perimenopause. What's with this irregular, nonspecific bleeding pattern? Heavy deluge of flooding for a couple of weeks, scant spotting at times, in-between...lasting anywhere from a few days to a few weeks, with anywhere from a few days to a few weeks' to a few months' "vacation" in-between that.
Well, no one consulted me about this.
I read somewhere that women in China don't go through the symptoms we do here in the States. That's it. I'm moving to China.

I'm trying to exercise daily. I was doing fairly well until I sprained my ankle 2 weeks ago but now I'm getting back on the horse. Today I walked over a mile with my arm weights that are about 22lbs total. I was out of shape and it was hard on my arms. I also did my 30 situps. I'm also going to drink a lot of water and try to eat healthy. I do tend to have a sweet tooth but I'm cutting...
Can you who have entered menopause remember specific patterns, length of time, etc., from start to finish, leading up to actual menopause? I'm wondering when this is going to end! Arrggh! Been having irregular periods now since I was 47, I believe.
any time you have more than 8 days of heavy bleeding you really should see a doc.
My period was regular after that until this year. For about 3 months this spring, I got my period every other week and it seemed like a "regular" flow each time. This summer, it started getting up to 5 weeks between. Then the last one 2 months ago looked an awful lot like how I remember my first period back when I was 12. Since I've not had cramps or any spotting, I'm thinking that I'm not going to have anymore. At least I'm hoping it's that and not some other problem...
My GYN said that 43 (my age) is on the young side to start perimenopause, but it does happen. He has seen women as young as 39 who have started perimenopause.
I just turned 51 and this is quite a rollercoaster! I went from the last six months of a very light period to a very heavy one on April 1. Then another light one at the end of April. Then nothing until June 23, which was about six weeks later, at which point I started spotting almost daily for two weeks. A woman I work with who is 10 years older than me tells me this is quite normal, it was what she experienced also. When I was younger I was always almost 28 days exactly, so this is quite frustrating!
I just had an appointment with a "menopause nurse" and because I happened to mention that I had just had a light period after a 15 day cycle, she wants me to be tested. This makes me anxious ... I thought odd periods were a part of the whole perimenopause thing. I have already had two "unecessary" surgeries in the past six years, I really don't want to add an uneccessary hysterectomy to the list! My instincts are telling me to wait and see if I have another episode of spotting before going in. Running to the doctor for every oddity makes me anxious and I've have plenty anxiety since entering this phase of life. I don't need any more.
I also have heard that Asian women don't have the severe perimenopausal issues that we Americans have. I've read that it is becaseu they are more active and have far better eating habits. Makes sense.
and are no longer on the pill. When my heavy bleeding started I read that women who have thier tubes tied go through this heavey bleeding as menopause. My doctor said no, and I have never been able to find it again on the internet.
My sister 53 who had been on the pill her periods just stopped. she had no problems at all.
I have not been on a pill since I was 35 I am now 51 and having a heck of a time going through this menopause.
Just wondering if any of you had your tubes tied??
