Menopause Support Group
Menopause is the physiological cessation of menstrual cycles associated with advancing age. It normally occurs in women between the ages of 45 and 55, when the body begins to slow and stop the production of eggs, estrogen and progesterone production decreases, and menstruation diminishes, eventually stopping altogether.

Ok, so I went back to my OBGYN for a repeat Papa last week.
(There was a minor problem that had to have a follow up)
Well, I had been about 7 or 8 months without a period.
So, I told the doctor.
She has never even checked me. (My family doc did the pap with problems last November) But, she went on to start a huge lecture about how serious this could be because - here is exactly what she said: "You are not supposed to have a period at your age!"
I explained that when my hot flashes stopped, I ovulated (I always feel pain when I ovulate), and I had PMS & breast soreness - I knew I was going to start.
She said "No, that is not correct. You may have cancer! You did not have a period. Your ovarian pain could be very serious. Your breast pain could be something else. We need to do an immediate D&C!"
Fortunately, I did not get freaked out!
Have any of you been thru such drama? If I was the type who did not know my body & who was shocked at anything said - I would have been an emotional mess now!

I gave my 2 week notice last Friday 13th. Now to join you fine people in a life of leisure and nothing else to do but to look out for myself....is it just me or does that sound pretty boring? My goal was to live to retire and I guess having to take early retirement because of health reasons wasn't exactly the way I had planned things. I just can't stay in that building that is reeking mildew...

I'm trying to exercise daily. I was doing fairly well until I sprained my ankle 2 weeks ago but now I'm getting back on the horse. Today I walked over a mile with my arm weights that are about 22lbs total. I was out of shape and it was hard on my arms. I also did my 30 situps. I'm also going to drink a lot of water and try to eat healthy. I do tend to have a sweet tooth but I'm cutting...
If you are post menopausal then whatever bleeding you have or had would not be a period, it would be abnormal vaginal bleeding and need to be checked out.. but it does not go by age.
On one hand, I went through the same thing and had a D&C (not very comfortable; somewhat painful, but it was over with) to check for cancer (Mom died of cervical cancer), but my doc was very calm and said that we just want to make sure all is well. But I'm SO SORRY that your doc was so frantic about it.
I also discovered through this website that it's fairly common for us to stop menstruating only to start up again up to a year later.
Perhaps the doc was overly worried about you and felt that preparing you for "the worst case scenario" would be better for you? I don't know. Do the D&C just to make sure, and keep us posted.
Good luck!
