i am supposed to start treatment for lyme(finally)and am very curious about how IV antibiotic therapy will start.
please tell me your experiences.
do they start the picc line while you are in your lyme doc's office?
also, do you learn how to do the IV installation from a home health aid or in a hospital or in your lyme doc's office?
is it going to be a whole new array of procedures that i will need to get "pre-approved" and fight for?
please tell me that is not the case. i honestly wonder if i can wait any longer.
i hope things go smooth and that i can start treatment ASAP and be that much closer to getting my life back again.

I'm trying to exercise daily. I was doing fairly well until I sprained my ankle 2 weeks ago but now I'm getting back on the horse. Today I walked over a mile with my arm weights that are about 22lbs total. I was out of shape and it was hard on my arms. I also did my 30 situps. I'm also going to drink a lot of water and try to eat healthy. I do tend to have a sweet tooth but I'm cutting...
In my case it wasn't even a LLMD who found my Lyme and I started treatment the nest day. IVs kept blowing on me cause I had been so sock for so long , PICC line was put in at a hospital , no fight from insurance and it was a God send. kinda itchy, but managable. def. perfer it over IV which had to be moved every 3-5 days. self administration is easy enough, but in my case I have found I have felt worse before I have started to feel better. what have they got you on and for how long? Good luck to you! Lorraine
I hope the IV helps. Keep us all informed on your experience.

I was under/mistreated at the ER and by a GP. Went to an ID specialist who immediately said it was in my brain and I needed IV ceftriaxone. Next day, I passed out in his office when the nurse tried to insert an mid-line catheter. Went to the hospital the next day and got a PICC line put in - it was a piece of cake. Didn't hurt, just felt strange going in. After the line was put in, I went back to the dr's office where a nurse showed me how to infuse the drug and flush the lines and otherwise take care of it. Next morning, a nurse came to my house to change the bandaging, check the line and give me little check up. From then on, I had a nurse come once a week and the drugs and supplies were delievered once a week.
The line made my arm a little sore for about a week. Only really hurt if I raised my arm above the breast line or slept on it. The biggest pain was showering because you have to keep it dry. The drug made me very tired but I stared to feel better after about 2 weeks on it.
Best of luck to you!
i am impatient and i am scared a bit because of all the mental changes and all..
thanks again!
