Lupus Support Group
Lupus is an auto-immune disease in which the immune system cannot distinguish between threats (like viruses and bacteria), and healthy cells and tissue. As a result, the body produces antibodies that inflict cell damage, most commonly targeting joints, skin, kidneys and the nervous system. Join the group and find support for coping with lupus.

The complete panel of tests for Lupus were negative yet I have so many of the symptoms. I was very surprised when my rheumotologist wouldn't even listen to my list of symptoms. I know a lot of the symptoms overlap with fibromyalgia but still my neck being red with light rash didn't even mean anything to him.
He wanted to send me to a heart dr. for the chest pain and shortness of breath. The shortness of breath is only when I lay down and then it isn't everytime. I guess I'll eventually find out if it's Lupus or something else.
Has anyone else out there had the same experience?

I'm trying to exercise daily. I was doing fairly well until I sprained my ankle 2 weeks ago but now I'm getting back on the horse. Today I walked over a mile with my arm weights that are about 22lbs total. I was out of shape and it was hard on my arms. I also did my 30 situps. I'm also going to drink a lot of water and try to eat healthy. I do tend to have a sweet tooth but I'm cutting...
Okay, maybe that's a little scary, but knowing is better that working blind, if you know what I mean.
So, be patient. He might have some idea of what he is really looking for, but it sounds like your rheumatologist's communication skills leave a lot to be desired.
Take the tests. You really will be happier knowing what the results are, and THEN your rheumy will be able to treat ALL of your involvements.
And, if it is fibromyalgia, my heart (no pun intended) goes out to you. I work with a guy who has fibro, and he had to have everything tested, and he's a cop! Yikes!!!
So, in the beginning, when you're trying to figure out what's wrong with you, it's going to be a series of doctors you will end up seeing before you get a complete diagnosis.
Just hang in there, you are definitely NOT alone. It's just frustrating as all heck!
Take care of yourself!
I hope this helps a little...
I should have said I do have FM and have for 20 years. My rheum. has been treating me for that for about years. He go down right angry why I refused to go to a heart dr.
The reason I told him I'm not going to go to a heart dr. is I'm tired of dr.s and tests. All I've done for the last 24 years is have surgeries, go to drs. and pay medical bills. At least I do have insurance now, which I didn't for a large period of time and had to pay out of my pocket. I might eventually go but I don't want to go anytime soon. Maybe the specialist I go to next month will figure out what's wrong. If he doesn't I'll give it a rest.
So, please please don't give up. Don't stop seeing the doctors. Heck, in the end I made a couple of good friends with some of my docs! But maybe it's because I live in a great town where we have doctors galore who aren't afraid to let down their hair once in a while and admit they are humans, too! I've had incredible luck with my docs, and would wish them on any good friend of mine!
Good luck to you, keep us posted on your progress. And, a big hug to ya!
