Lupus Support Group
Lupus is an auto-immune disease in which the immune system cannot distinguish between threats (like viruses and bacteria), and healthy cells and tissue. As a result, the body produces antibodies that inflict cell damage, most commonly targeting joints, skin, kidneys and the nervous system. Join the group and find support for coping with lupus.

A flare is when the lupus symptoms become active. The severity of flares vary from person to person.

For me there are little flare ups and major flare ups and fortunatly lots of time with almost no symptoms at all. The little ones last a few days to a few months and I loose some hair, have a little fever in the evenings, get a little tired, have some arthrits pain and peripheral neuropathy and maybe a little depression. The major flare ups can land me in the hospital with swelling in my brain, major depression, psychosis, seisures, extreem fatigue, arthritis that seizes up my joints and really painful peripheral neuropathy to the point I can't hold a pencil or button my pants. It is different for everyone depending on what organ systems the lupus affects.
