Lupus Support Group

Lupus is an auto-immune disease in which the immune system cannot distinguish between threats (like viruses and bacteria), and healthy cells and tissue. As a result, the body produces antibodies that inflict cell damage, most commonly targeting joints, skin, kidneys and the nervous system. Join the group and find support for coping with lupus.

sharp chest & breast pain

does anyone get very sharp chest & breast pain? all day today i've been having periodic chest/breast (left) pain. i don't know if it would be heart related or something else. the pain is in the low center of my chest and all around and centered on my left breast. i'm about to start freaking here, i'm afraid its something with my heart.

That is typical of lupus. The inflammation causes the pain and it feels like a heart attack. I get it often and it scares me too. You should tell your doctor. He will be able to help you

thanks for the input. right now i don't have a dr. i'm seeing a new one next month but my rheumie that i had for many years had to close his practice because he needs a heart transplant. so right now i'm kinda stuck and don't know what to do. i haven't had blood work since july!!! november was the earliest i could get an appt. with this new dr. which is soon than most of the other ones i called.

I've been having pain on and around my left breast lately too. Mine usually feels like it's in the tissue rather than in my heart, but changes the other way around sometimes. I was more concerned about breast lumps, but now wondering if this is another lupus related complication. Let me know if you hear anything on the subject. Good luck with the new doc.

It could be costochondritis, which is very common with lupus. I find that ice works better than heat.

I've had that for years. Mine flares up with stress and eating too many acidic drinks or food. It doesn't hurt to get your heart checked out to rule out any possibilities, other than that could be heartburn due to the medications.
Things that have helped me is switching to water, taking fish oil every meal and flaxseed oil ..

When i experianced chest pains, i also had trouble breathing the lupus has affected my lungs. they recommended deep breathing for a couple of minutes even though it may hurt.

Have you not been referred to a rheumatology depo in a hospital? I had to go to hospital to see consultants who specialised in Lupus.

I am so glad to hear that I am not alone in this problem. I thought I was having a heart attack the first few times this happened. Very Scary. I do not know anyone with Lupus so I had no idea if this was a symptom. My primary care doctor thought it was an allergy to a mediction. Does anyone else have he feeling that half of your head is numb and inflamed, like it is pushing into your skull?

I get chest pain alot also, was in the hospital twice early this year thinking I was having a heart attack, but docs say it wasn't. I don't have any luck with the doctors listening. I get really frustrated with tem.

i know what you mean about dr.'s not listening. seems they think i'm a hypochondriac or something. this is REAL! everything i feel or sense is wrong is REAL! i can't make this stuff up!

sweetie thing about doctors and lupus is " oh you have an infected toenail...its cause of the lupus" half the doctors look at you like u have sprouted two heads. Ive found not very many people know about this illness including most local gp's. what i did was demand to be seen you have a problem you want it sorting. your not a hypochondriac you are in pain. make sure they know it. failing that ask to be reffered to someone who knows what they are dealing with.. lupus among other things is not to be taken lightly.

VERY common. I get this at least once or twice a week. It is called costocindritis and it most definitely feels like you're having a heart attack. The first time it happened - 9 years ago....I used to take the commuter train into Boston and the chest pain started, I actually took out my next of kin card as I didn't think I would make it home alive. Piroxicam and prednisone help with this problem. Thinking of you!

okay, so I had been stressed out with my relatives coming out of town and upcoming husbands bday. I notice some chest pains last night and so I made sure I had my fish oil and Coq10 is good for the heart. I also need to get back to eating fruits and vegetables (raw food diet).
