Lupus Support Group

Lupus is an auto-immune disease in which the immune system cannot distinguish between threats (like viruses and bacteria), and healthy cells and tissue. As a result, the body produces antibodies that inflict cell damage, most commonly targeting joints, skin, kidneys and the nervous system. Join the group and find support for coping with lupus.

rash after shower

Anyone else get a rash all on their chest and legs and face after they shower?

I have rashes on face, chest and arms at the best of times. However I find the the heat from the shower makes it much worse, or when I splash cold water on my face. As time goes by it does subside, but the rash is always there. Temps really seem to agravate it, just like the heat in the summer, humidity especially!

I have this problem on my face, neck and chest. Does yours feel hot to the touch? Mine does and itches as well.

Yes. We have "hard water". I put a filtered showerhead on and it helped some, but did not clear it up completely.

Yes, definately rash worst after shower. If i dont notice the rash, after a shower i sure do. On my face, chest, arms and legs. But i normally have a rash all the time.. but becomes more prominant in change of weather (shower).

I get more physically sick after a hot/warm shower. I notice the butterfly rash more but it doesn't itch or anything, maybe feels a bit warm. My body doesn't seem to take to heat all the way around.

We got a new hot water heater installed recently and I couldn't wait to take a nice tub bath! I could not believe how physically ill I have been feeling after I have been taking warm/hot baths showers!
In reply to the original question.. when I shower I always get a rash on my face and arms that goes away.
I think I probably just need to take cooler showers, but do you think either of these things are Lupus related?

I have fibro but have to wait to see the specialist, to know if i have lupus. But seems i have the symtoms. Malar rash. Light sensitive. Sun allergic! lol get sick if out in sun for more than a few minutes ( i used to have a suntan all year round! Not now). Sore, swollen joints etc..blah blah...

So i reckon, the malar rash reaction to hot water/weather, is lupus.

If that helps.

I get that rash from the heat of the shower on my hands and feet and they swell similar to what they do in the sun ( although I am terrible love the sun and don't limit my time in it)

Yes, I do too! I'm new to this site and it is so reassuing to see that there are other people out there experiencing the same things I experience!

I have lupus and recently began having terrible rashes following a shower. My entire torso, face, neck are flaming-red-hot and it takes a few hours to go away.

I mentioned this to my doctor on 12/1 and he said he had not really heard of anything like that related to lupus.

This can be from the products you use. It can be from the heat of the water. I get little tiny red rashes on my legs after showering.

I do not feel this is from products as it doesn't seem to matter which soaps I use (I tried eliminating and using different things).

My rash is very widespread and blotchy, like big welts. I don't really think much of it since it goes away rather quickly. It has just become a way of life.

My husband laughs at me and calls me "scuzzy" (affectionately of course)...or he will tell people when I make reference to showering; ya it is that time of the week, lol. I hate to shower any more because of all the reasons stated in this thread.
