Lupus Support Group
Lupus is an auto-immune disease in which the immune system cannot distinguish between threats (like viruses and bacteria), and healthy cells and tissue. As a result, the body produces antibodies that inflict cell damage, most commonly targeting joints, skin, kidneys and the nervous system. Join the group and find support for coping with lupus.

I am really suffering of insomnia so bad. I am not like this before my diagnose so I have a belief this is one of the side effect of the medicines I am taking. I knew that prednisone is one of those who have that trouble of sleeping side effect and I don't know what else of my medicine have this cause of insomnia. Anyway, I am off of prednisone for maybe about 4 months already. My question is, how long does the side effect of preds which is mine insmonia will go away? Anyway, have thesame problem? thanks a lot...lups

If you've been off prednisone for four months now, you shouldn't be feeling its effects anymore. You may want to talk to your doctor about your insomnia to see whether it is drug related or lupus related.

thats a baffling one. I took prednisone for nearly 2 years and i just gained like 2 stone. i would definatly recommend you see your Rheum or your consultant for some advice on what your next move should be. Best of look to you sweatheart.

You should be sleeping like a baby immediately off the prednisone. If you have trouble sleeping at night, avoid caffeine, green tea or any kind of teas after lunchtime or at all. Try waking up same time everyday like before 9 am and try not to take a long nap in the pm. You can try exercising in the morning or afternoon as long as it's not right before bedtime. A quick warm shower also might make you go to sleep. If you have restless leg syndrom, I make sure I wear thick socks and have a bottle of water and crackers beside my bed in case I get hungry at midnight or so.

Ask you Dr. about Ambien CR. My Rhuematologist put me on it along with my other meds....it is non narcotic and has really helped me since my diagnosis. Best of luck.

I'm trying to exercise daily. I was doing fairly well until I sprained my ankle 2 weeks ago but now I'm getting back on the horse. Today I walked over a mile with my arm weights that are about 22lbs total. I was out of shape and it was hard on my arms. I also did my 30 situps. I'm also going to drink a lot of water and try to eat healthy. I do tend to have a sweet tooth but I'm cutting...
