Lupus Support Group
Lupus is an auto-immune disease in which the immune system cannot distinguish between threats (like viruses and bacteria), and healthy cells and tissue. As a result, the body produces antibodies that inflict cell damage, most commonly targeting joints, skin, kidneys and the nervous system. Join the group and find support for coping with lupus.

I am writing a book called crying woolf, I discuss our rights as patients to have pain meds for the pain that is adequate to our pain. It is the ethical right for all of us to be out of pain.
The addiction factor needs to be out of the eqaustion, when u take pain meds for pain, you do not get high.
We need to vocalize our rights and fight against stigmatism of being treated like addicts.

I'm trying to exercise daily. I was doing fairly well until I sprained my ankle 2 weeks ago but now I'm getting back on the horse. Today I walked over a mile with my arm weights that are about 22lbs total. I was out of shape and it was hard on my arms. I also did my 30 situps. I'm also going to drink a lot of water and try to eat healthy. I do tend to have a sweet tooth but I'm cutting...
Some pain med's can be addictive and you have more than enough to deal with having lupus with out that too.
ALL med's are metabolized in the liver. You have to careful what you mix with each med your on, you cannot afford to mess up your liver with out it working properly NONE of your meds will do you any good.
I am allergic to codiene sooo I cannot take moraphine because the liver metabolizes it into codiene wich I cannot take. And that my friends Really cuts down on the pain meds I can take.
IF your doctor says that they do not want to give you meds that are addictive then ask them to find one that will help you, offer a compromise tell them you will only take it at night so that you can sleep well.
Your doctor should be willing to work with you IF not find a new doctor. Ask about pain managment clinics. The doctors there study pain to find better way of treating it.
As for insurance and HMO's God has a special place in hell for them.......Deb
