Lupus Support Group
Lupus is an auto-immune disease in which the immune system cannot distinguish between threats (like viruses and bacteria), and healthy cells and tissue. As a result, the body produces antibodies that inflict cell damage, most commonly targeting joints, skin, kidneys and the nervous system. Join the group and find support for coping with lupus.

can you have lupas and not get the butterfly rash??

Yes you can. There are two main types of lupus: SLE-systemic lupus erythematosus-which affects any of the organ systems in the body, and may not show any outside manifestation on the skin. DLE- discoid lupus eythematosus- which affects the skin and usually manifests itself in the butterflyrash as well as other rashes on the body. I have SLE and have never had the butterfly rash.

I never got the buterfly rash across my nose and cheeks either, but several years ago I got a horrible rash across my chest and stomach. My PCP gave me some steroids (low dose) and it didn't clear up, sent me to a dermatologist who gave me an injection and steroid cream. Both dr's were puzzled because it didn't itch or bother me and I wasn't oficially diagnosed with SLE at that time. Now that hindsight is better, we all acknowledge what it was.

I'm trying to exercise daily. I was doing fairly well until I sprained my ankle 2 weeks ago but now I'm getting back on the horse. Today I walked over a mile with my arm weights that are about 22lbs total. I was out of shape and it was hard on my arms. I also did my 30 situps. I'm also going to drink a lot of water and try to eat healthy. I do tend to have a sweet tooth but I'm cutting...
