Lupus Support Group
Lupus is an auto-immune disease in which the immune system cannot distinguish between threats (like viruses and bacteria), and healthy cells and tissue. As a result, the body produces antibodies that inflict cell damage, most commonly targeting joints, skin, kidneys and the nervous system. Join the group and find support for coping with lupus.
Fortunately I was blessed with "big hair" so when I was losing it it wasn't really noticable. It got real thin there for awhile and now it's growing back in- of course, the new hairs are gray! I'm 47 so that is to be expected. I noticed on your profile that you don't list any medication, are you on anything for the lupus? Most common medication is the plaquenil- it stopped the rash and the hair loss within a few weeks for me. Now, I get hair loss when I'm in a flare. Hang in there and talk with the people here, we all understand what you are going through. xoxoLyn
If you're not on Plaquenil, I would recommend getting on it soon. It will help.
For me, the hair thining out and shedding seem to go hand in hand with the flare ups. I pull back my hair into ponytails or a bun so its not so noticeable.(I use plastic hair clips-gentler on the hair)
