Lupus Support Group
Lupus is an auto-immune disease in which the immune system cannot distinguish between threats (like viruses and bacteria), and healthy cells and tissue. As a result, the body produces antibodies that inflict cell damage, most commonly targeting joints, skin, kidneys and the nervous system. Join the group and find support for coping with lupus.

We had a blood drive at my school and i wasnt sure if i could donate. i really wanted to but i heard somewhere that no matter what kind of lupus you have, you shouldnt donate. does anyone know if its ok to donate?? i would really like to donate the next time we have a blood drive. I wouldnt think that it could do any harm since i only have Discoid Lupus(skin) not systemic. but im not sure.
Is it something i should ask my doctor??

I would think (speculation) the reason we may not be able to give blood is of because of the meds not necessarily the Lupus - Just a thought

Lupus patients CAN donate blood, but you need to describe and explain every treatement you are on and be very specific about it. But there is no law againts us donating or being organ donors ;P
