I've heard it said "it is not just about surviving the storm, but how you dance in the rain" we are in the middle of a downpour. My spouse and I have been facing some challenging financial issues as well as health issues, but now the light of our life our previous 5 year old female dachshund "Sadie" aka she who rules our hearts and home suddenly cannot use the lower half of her back out hind legs. It happened during the night with no warning. Due to financial constraints we cannot get her to the vet until next week, we are doing our best to keep her comfortable, warm, and at peace. I feel horribly helpless and alone, we have no family to ask for help since we both tend to isolate we have few close friends to call on. I am christian, but have had some wonderful wiccan friends in the past. PLEASE, PLEASE, PLEASE whatever your spiritual affiliation send prayers and or light for our sweet girl, and my spouse. My amazing usually very strong spouse is so very attached to sadie and she is hurting. After Monday I will not have access to the internet again until March, I will be thinking of you wonderful group of ladies and how kind you have been to me since I found this place. Again please visualise our sweet sadie as whole and happy. Thank you for listening, Sharon aka Dreamsicle

I want to also say that I carry that fear within me for my own lil Family and finances and who to turn to if there's a crisis. There have been some quite scary moments. And just when I was about to sink into paralyzing fear, to my surprise and bewilderment, Blessings of caring, helping folks appeared! It can happen. Blessed Be!

Have you been scouring the internet for any veterinarian emergency services in your area? A non-profit or vet that will accomodate payments? A rescue group that may have an in with a vet?

Wishing the best for you and your girls. I know how important they are to us as we have two dogs who are our family also. Maybe you can find a vet who will take payments? There are some out there who are truly in it for the love of the animals and are willing to work with the clients. Maybe you can call and explain what is going on and see what they say. I am not very religious but I am spriitual and I and saying a prayer for you and your family.

Watching my amazing usually strong silent type spouse so loving tenderly caring for our sweet sadie reminds of some of why she stands so tall in my eyes. Sadie saw our vet and she has a 50/50 chance. She cannot use her hind legs and we help her potty, she has always been a tough little fighter, the 5 inch tall protector of our home, with the courage of a pitt bull. Thanks to those who are sending light, and prayers

This hurts so very bad, to watch out sweet Sadie struggle with so much pain. We take turns staying with her, we help her potty, and drink, she had a bad reaction to her pain meds last night, finally 13 hours later she is resting. My spouse and I cry and cry some more. She is OUR baby and a big source of joy. The next 24 hours will be decision time. I just needed to say that this is hurting so very badly.

I can only imagine what you are going through. We unexpectedly had to put our dog to sleep two days after Christmas. It still rocks me to the core. She was a beautiful cocker spaniel, and the only pet that I bought into the relationship. I'll pray for your dachshund. Dogs are such a precious gift from God.

Our sweet Sadie, is not going to make it. She took a turn for the worse and can't raise her head without screaming. We would have had her put to sleep but we are in the middle of a blizzard. We keep her as comfortable as we can, we take turns sleeping so one of us can be with her at all times. Many Thanks to all of you who prayed for us, it means alot.

Bless you and your Spouse's hearts! And Bless Sadie. As very, very hard as it is, sometimes it is just their time to transition from this existence and on to the next. I pray Sadie's transition is a peaceful one, and she will be held with you and your Spouse's love. Keep some hope alive. Dachshunds very often get disc compression in their spines both lower and upper. Now often they need surgery to fix the problem, but sometimes with extreme rest and some anti-inflammatory drugs they can get relief. Many times vets will try this conservative method of "cage rest" for 6-8 weeks before moving on to surgical remedy. In any case you are all in my thoughts.

    I gave my 2 week notice last Friday 13th. Now to join you fine people in a life of leisure and nothing else to do but to look out for myself....is it just me or does that sound pretty boring? My goal was to live to retire and I guess having to take early retirement because of health reasons wasn't exactly the way I had planned things. I just can't stay in that building that is reeking mildew...

    I'm trying to exercise daily. I was doing fairly well until I sprained my ankle 2 weeks ago but now I'm getting back on the horse. Today I walked over a mile with my arm weights that are about 22lbs total. I was out of shape and it was hard on my arms. I also did my 30 situps. I'm also going to drink a lot of water and try to eat healthy. I do tend to have a sweet tooth but I'm cutting...
