Lactose Intolerance Support Group
Lactose intolerance is the condition in which lactase, an enzyme needed for proper metabolization of lactose (a constituent of milk and other dairy products), is not produced in adulthood. A hydrogen breath test is required for a clinical diagnosis. With lactose intolerance, the result of consuming lactose or a lactose-containing food is excess gas production and often...

I have been at home with my daughter mainly since we found out about her "dairy intolerance", but recently went back to work.
What I am finding out is that the daycares(2 differnt ones this yr)(she is in headstart this yr)don't seem to have a clue as to what to be wary of. They always want to feed her cream gravy for breakfast, and don't understand why she doesn't know what she can and cannot have. The latter is my fault I guess, in an attempt to never make her feel ackward, I have always tried to treat her normal or have suitable substitutes. One daycare poured regular milk for the kid next to her, and she picked up the glass and drank it. They were upset and wanted to know why she would drink real milk. She is four yrs old and a glass of milk on the table has always been her milk, what else would she think? Then when they found out that she didn't get upset stomach from it, only runny and bloody nose, they wanted to know if this was all really nessasary :(
When the runny nose kicked in full force a day or so later, they argued she had a cold and had trouble getting them to give the allergy meds consistantly.(thus we changed schools)
Does anyone else have school age kids with lactose intolerance?
I send lunches on the days that they are having mac-n-chz and such, and soy subs for chz slices and soy milk. We are currently at the phase where we are trying to rember to tell her exactly what she can and cannot have, and that there is a difference.
would love to hear from other mom's on this. :)

A deep longing accompaniedby the deepest Love some days. The heavy fog mayreturn and the next day, it may recede.Once again, it's...

Today is my 25th birthday, to my somewhat lack of surprise I can see already no one really seems to care. I've always been the kinda person to make sure that everyone I Care about feels appreciated and knew somebody had their back. I can count 4 times this year when I Went out of my way to make sure a "friend" felt good on their birthday, especially if they got left hanging. Its early in the...
Also talk to the kitchen staff. Make them aware of your childs allergies. They will help your daughter make proper food choices, and will tell her if there is something she cant have. No one knows better whats in the food than the head chef! All the school chefs
were GREAT at making sure my son didnt eat something he couldnt. All they need is to be informed. (eventually my son had so many allergies it was impossible to feed him at school, so it was just easier to bring lunches)
Best of luck to ya and do let us know how its all working out for you!
