Kidney Stones are solid crystals of dissolved minerals in urine found inside the kidneys or ureters. They vary in size from as small as a grain of sand to as large as a golf ball. Kidney stones typically leave the body in the urine stream; if they grow relatively large before passing, obstruction of a ureter and distention with urine can cause severe pain most commonly...

The size isn't as important as the color
My stones get sent off to pathology and my urologist gets the print out. It's a shame they lost your stone. It's very likely a calcium oxalate stone which are black, grey or brown just depending on your body it also could have cystine/struvite mixed w/ the black producing a more brown color. It's possible the composition of your stone could have more than one cause.
I agree with Cares...though others can be brown it is usually the calcium oxalate stones.
