Irritable Bowel Syndrome (IBS) Support Group
Irritable bowel syndrome is a common intestinal disorder that is characterized by bloating, abdominal pain, diarrhea, cramping, and constipation. Typically no abnormalities appear during standard medical testing, and so irritable bowel syndrome is identified by the symptoms. Although irritable bowel syndrome can cause serious discomfort, the intestines are not harmed.

Hi all, I am new here and need some advice or help.
I am a 26 year old female and I've suffered with constipation and painful bowel movements for several years (about 10) and had about 3 colonoscopies, one of which was about 1.5 years ago.
About 3-4 months ago I started having a really sore, achey feeling in my left side lower abdomen, about an inch or two below my belly button and to the left. I can also feel it in my low back and sometimes when I stand up, it feels like my left hip is going to go out of place, it hurts too. Also, recently I have not really had the constipation nearly as bad as I did in previous years, I am going about 1-2 times daily now.
I went to my gastro doctor and she dx as probable IBS - I also had a CT scan which showed cysts on the ovaries, but I was told they are 'normal', no other problems.
She put me on Levbid, which seems to work somewhat, but definietly not completely. I was just wondering if what I described sounds typical of IBS problems? THanks for any help or advice.

I'm trying to exercise daily. I was doing fairly well until I sprained my ankle 2 weeks ago but now I'm getting back on the horse. Today I walked over a mile with my arm weights that are about 22lbs total. I was out of shape and it was hard on my arms. I also did my 30 situps. I'm also going to drink a lot of water and try to eat healthy. I do tend to have a sweet tooth but I'm cutting...
Good thing is, the doc has checked you out and you have had the colonoscopy to rle out anything dangerous (what an experience eh?) so try not to feel too anxious over it.
IBS can change. I had severe cramp pain and feeling like I was going to hurl all the time for the first 2 years of my IBS...now 5 years later I hardly get any pain...just loose bowels most days which I can control with Imodium.
I did have a kidney stone that was in that area, but don't worry...you would know if you have one...it's the worst pain you will ever go through in your life...seriously and comes on instantly.
Just sounds like IBS doing it's thing.
Hope you feel better.

the fact that your bowel movements have changed is not uncommon as i in the last year have began to not only get pain before i go to the loo but afterwards also which is different for me - have you changed your medication latley because that might have somethin to do with it all
but i dont trust what doc say when it comes to ibs - ibs is basically just a term for a collection of symptoms which doesnt help any one so if you dont think the doc is right stand up for yourself its your body - hope this helped
