Irritable Bowel Syndrome (IBS) Support Group
Irritable bowel syndrome is a common intestinal disorder that is characterized by bloating, abdominal pain, diarrhea, cramping, and constipation. Typically no abnormalities appear during standard medical testing, and so irritable bowel syndrome is identified by the symptoms. Although irritable bowel syndrome can cause serious discomfort, the intestines are not harmed.
Constipation + Mucus= Worried

For weeks (more like months) I have been having loose stools- to the point where I could not sit through class. It was the school physician that diagnosed me with IBS. I am going to see a GI when I go home for Thanksgiving break. Anyway, for the past few days I have had really bad cramping and stomach pains with no BM. Today I kept feeling like I needed to have a BM but could not... all that I could get was yellowish mucus (sorry for the graphic description) with gas. Im starting to worry... and I feel like I want to take a laxative but dont know if I should because Im going to see the GI on Wed. Should I be worried about the sudden constipation and mucus??? Help!!!!

I'm trying to exercise daily. I was doing fairly well until I sprained my ankle 2 weeks ago but now I'm getting back on the horse. Today I walked over a mile with my arm weights that are about 22lbs total. I was out of shape and it was hard on my arms. I also did my 30 situps. I'm also going to drink a lot of water and try to eat healthy. I do tend to have a sweet tooth but I'm cutting...
There may be increased mucus production by the lining of the intestine, which is then passed. Mucus is more often associated with diarrhea-predominant IBS.
You should mention this to your doctor tho' just to be on the safe side.
Have you had all the tests done to rule out Celiac, Crohn's etc..?
I'm guessing you have as you have already been diagnosed with IBS.
The tests you have to go thru before thay can really say it's IBS are for Celiac Disease, Ulcerative Colitis, Candida, Chrohn's Disease and the nasty one...bowel cancer...but don't worry...it sounds like just IBS. Anything alse and you would be really ill.
I've been taking lactulose solution to soften the poo and fibogel (which is now called Senokot). Another very good fibre thing is psyllium husk, which is even better than Senokot as it's pure. It's pure soluble fibre and has helped me with the toilet going.
Hope you'll feel better soon.
