Irritable Bowel Syndrome (IBS) Support Group
Irritable bowel syndrome is a common intestinal disorder that is characterized by bloating, abdominal pain, diarrhea, cramping, and constipation. Typically no abnormalities appear during standard medical testing, and so irritable bowel syndrome is identified by the symptoms. Although irritable bowel syndrome can cause serious discomfort, the intestines are not harmed.
Digestion is the result of a balance between yeasts and bacteria that live in your digestive system. If you are out of balance, then IBS is the result. You need to determine whether your imbalance is a excess of yeasts or an excess of bacteria. If you eat a lot of sugar and desire it, it's likely that the yeasts are too much. Otherwise it's the bacteria.
Lack of bacteria and overgrowth of yeasts (aka Candida) is often caused by antibiotics taken after major surgery.
Izzie--did Activia give you any troubles in the beginning--extra gurgly stomach or anything like that? I love the taste & see great potential for helping with bloating--just dont like the churning tummy. (sorry if TMI)
Thanks again for all the replies.
