Interstitial Cystitis (IC) Support Group
Interstitial Cystitis (IC) is a urinary bladder disease of unknown cause characterised by pelvic and intense bladder pain, urinary frequency (as often as every 10 minutes), and pain with urination. It is not unusual for patients to experience nocturia and pain with sexual intercourse. IC is also known as painful bladder syndrome (PBS), particularly outside of the USA.

my mother has been suffering off and on with cystitis for the last year but manages to ward it off with cranberry powder (not juice) which I take as well - this is very new to mum who is usually very healthy. She has not got very bad symptoms at all, with this, but the last few weeks has got confused over a few things. I am wondering if it could be due to this. She doesnt get much pain at all and at the moment none - could this confusion be due to an underlying infection, does anyone think?
Would much appreciate some ideas about this...many thanks ...

many people dont know this, but yes it is very common for those who are over 50 & gets any type of infection even a bladder infection, can become confused & disoriented. i know this because i was a med aide & it was very common in the nursing homes i worked in. so it would be a good idea to have her urine checked for an infection. good luck.

Just wanted to let you know, I read recently that cranberry can actually make IC worse because of the acidity.

oh dear! I wonder if the powder is any different to the juice? if I keep taking the powder and mum, too, it does make a difference. But a nursing friend said the other day that it is good to have drinks that balance the acid and alkali e.g. cranberry one day barley another or whatever? and that apprently fools the bugs and kills them! anyone heard of this?

I think even powder would be irritating b/c of acids or even preservatives in the actual powder... if there is no pain while taking it though,. it may be ok, everyone is different... Like me, I can't even drink tap water....

I'm trying to exercise daily. I was doing fairly well until I sprained my ankle 2 weeks ago but now I'm getting back on the horse. Today I walked over a mile with my arm weights that are about 22lbs total. I was out of shape and it was hard on my arms. I also did my 30 situps. I'm also going to drink a lot of water and try to eat healthy. I do tend to have a sweet tooth but I'm cutting...
