Hello everyone
I'm new to this forum. I'm suffering from chronic insomnia and I just cant cope any more.
My husband and I got very ill last winter in August (in Australia) and the virus affected our central nervous system so much so that we would get max 2 hrs sleep a nite if lucky. This went on for weeks on end. My husbands sleep eventually recovered somewhat but mine never did. Now 8 months on I'm still ill from the effects of the virus and I still sleep 2-3 hrs a nite if lucky. To add to this problem my husband was diagnosed with Leukaemia during our illness last year and I now have Chronic Fatigue Syndrome due to the virus. I have a 4 year old daughter, no family and little if no support. I am a real MESS. The other day I had only a few hours sleep for about 4 nights in a row I was so exhausted I tried to nap and I just couldnt fall asleep. My worst nite was 45 mins sleep after only sleeping a few hours the previous 2 nites. I'm at the verge of a nervous breakdown.......I have tried several antidepressants and benzos but I don't want to go down that path again. I have tried all sorts of herbal formulas but most if not all upset my nervous system. I have tried meditation, relaxation, music, reading etc,etc,etc....all this things help me to relax but NOT to fall asleep....Can anyone PLEASE help???!!!!!!!!

I gave my 2 week notice last Friday 13th. Now to join you fine people in a life of leisure and nothing else to do but to look out for myself....is it just me or does that sound pretty boring? I'm trying to exercise daily. I was doing fairly well until I sprained my ankle 2 weeks ago but now I'm getting back on the horse. Today I walked over a mile with my arm weights that are about 22lbs total. I was out of shape and it was hard on my arms. I also did my 30 situps. I'm also going to drink a lot of water and try to eat healthy. I do tend to have a sweet tooth but I'm cutting...
I have tried sleeping tablets but had to stop them as they were making me ill. Also tried several anti-depressants and found the same.
TREAN: how did you go with Melatonin? I've been taking that for 5 months now and although it doesn't help me sleep really, sometimes it does help me GET to sleep )albeit for a an hour or so).
I would be interested to see what it does for you.
ALso, has anyone tried various herbal mixtures?? These have not worked well for me either.
Well, whilst you are all waking up this morning I will be trying to go to sleep. I hope some of you managed to get a few hours at least.
Because I suffer from Chronic Fatigue, if I go with out sleep for too long I simply fall ill. That's my fear. I can't afford to be sick again...anyway, thank yo uall for your support and good luck tonite!
I have a 4 year old and find it hard to kept up with him.
I have found with the pills i can get a full weeks sleep on average of 5 hours a night then go the next week with no sleep even with taking the pills.
I have being falling asleep on my sons bed waiting for him to sleep.
I take tentabs 10mg and find then ok.
I have have tried herbal and found they work when you are that tired.
I also have got in the rountine of going to bed the same time helpful.
I totally wear myself out and dont take a nap during the day even if i didnt have any sleep all week.
The doctor told me that no one has ever died before because they have had no sleep for days, he told me that after going 4 months without any sleep.
I have being taking multi vitiams to help out and i am finding that very helpful.
I have even gone 3 nights sleep without any sleeping tablets cause i was that tired and that was the best sleep i have had in years.
Shcn: at least you are sleeping SOME sleep albeit not everyday. The strange thing with me is that even if I get no sleep I still can't sleep in the afternoon or that nite. I can't make any sense of that. Dr says my system is overactive from all that it's been through over the past 8 mths. Don't know but nothing works anymore not even sleeping tablets. A
Got only 2.5 hrs again last nite. I've been awake since 2am. Hoping for a better nite tonite.
