Five years ago I got together with my partner and I had a baby boy from a previous relationship and he was not even one. There is no contact with his natural father. My partner had a 2 year old to his previous relationship and we had custody of him every weekend and school holidays. As the years have past the boys have grown very close to each other and look forward to seeing each other again. My partners grandparents have taken in my son as theirs though still display obvious favouritism to the my partners natural son though my son does not see this yet. Now my partner has left me for another woman in another country and is leaving to go there for a month or so. He seems non-fussed if he does or does not continue his relationship with my son as his dad. His parents still want to be his grandparents. I don't know what to do. I am still raw and on emotional rollercoaster and I don't know what is best in this case for my son. My ex-partner is the type that has never had to do anything because his mother took care of everything and he still very much a spoilt-boy! I don't want my son hurt like I am in the future if he leaves him one day too. Help!!

My goal was to live to retire and I guess having to take early retirement because of health reasons wasn't exactly the way I had planned things. I just can't stay in that building that is reeking mildew...
