Has any one done much research on any possible effects of ultrasound? A friend questioned me today why I was having ANOTHER ultrasound next week at 8 wks (I had one at 6 wks too) and wasn't I worried it might not be safe? I felt so annoyed, like I need something else to worry about....not that I don't want to be safe and try to be as safe and healthy as possible for my baby. I did a quick google search and found many studies from the 80's saying it is safe, but found this one Midwifery site that was really trying to make a point that there is a good possibilty that the increase in the amount of ultrasounds done could be the cause of many problems: Autism, mental retardation, neurological disorders, heart defects, etc.
I know that as a group, since we are going through infertility treatment, we do tend to have more ultrasounds than our friends that can conceive naturally, so I wanted to see what any one else here knows.
Thanks!

Rest your mind. There is no medical proof that ultrasounds affect the baby AT ALL! In fact, we used IUI and were able to have our son. I had to see a perinatologist, doctors for high risk pregnancies, and they did an ultrasound EVERY MONTH! So rest your mind and tell that gal that it's an old wives tale. Blessings!

I had heard something like that too a while back. I ended up asking my aunt, who is an OB nurse , and she said that there were studies done back in the 80's and 90's that showed some problems that may have been linked to the multiple ultrasounds, but since technology has advanced in the last 15 or so years, there hasnt really been any issues. So, I guess as long as the equipment used isnt ancient, you and your baby will be just fine. Hope this helps put your mind at ease!

The American Pregnancy Association advises against ultrasounds outside of those that are doctor recommended. It probably isn't a good idea to go to those mall keepsake baby 3D places because those conducting the ultrasounds are probably not certified I think as long as your doctor is the one that is recommending the ultrasound you are fine. I know woman that have had 10 or more because of high risk issues with babies that are beautiful and healthy.

I gave my 2 week notice last Friday 13th. Now to join you fine people in a life of leisure and nothing else to do but to look out for myself....is it just me or does that sound pretty boring? My goal was to live to retire and I guess having to take early retirement because of health reasons wasn't exactly the way I had planned things. I just can't stay in that building that is reeking mildew...

I'm trying to exercise daily. I was doing fairly well until I sprained my ankle 2 weeks ago but now I'm getting back on the horse. Today I walked over a mile with my arm weights that are about 22lbs total. I was out of shape and it was hard on my arms. I also did my 30 situps. I'm also going to drink a lot of water and try to eat healthy. I do tend to have a sweet tooth but I'm cutting...
