Hi everyone, this is a first post for me. My husband and I are in the early stages of Fertility Treatment which you can read about in my first journal entry.
I wanted everyone's opinion about my travel time to the Dr's. I am about 50 miles or just over an hour away from Brigham and Women's hospital which is the hospital organization that all of my Dr's. are a part of. I am a huge fan of the hospital and the Dr's care. I love that they all share the records as well as all of my Dr's communicate with each other. For instance, when I had my tonsils out my lapband surgeon and ENT surgeon emailed back and forth to make sure everyone knew what was going on and how everything worked.
The Fertility Treatment program is through Brigham as well and I'm looking towards January when my husband and I start the IVF procedure. It seems to be a lot of running back and forth to the Dr. Do you think the 50 mile one way commute is too much? I'd be hard pressed to find something nearby because I have no experience with the hospitals closest to me except for the one that gave me a shot of morphine and said I had a stomach bug when in reality my gallbladder was failing. I had no choice but to go to that hospital because it was by ambulance. When I was released I had my husband drive me to Brigham because I knew something was wrong and they ended up admitting me for over two weeks because my liver was failing at the same time. Brigham is a well renowned Harvard teaching hospital. Would you make the drive or find someone closer?
Thanks in advance for the advice.

In my case, I drive 65 miles one direction. I have no choice. It's the closest fertility clinic. To me, since it is something I want so badly, the drive is hardly an issue to have doctors that I trust and feel comfortable with to guide through this emotional part of my life.

i agree peace of mind is really the answer. However it depends on how much time your employer is willing to let u be out of the office (it that applies to u). I will be starting IVF soon also and I am about 15 miles from my RE and having anxiety about it. I had plenty of appts with IUI, I can only imagine how many there will be with IVF. I am lucky that I am a boss, so I can sneak out when I need to. If u can afford to take the time to drive 50 miles, then its worth it.

I wonder what the monitoring hours are? My clinic is close by however, the montioring hours start at 6:00am so someone with a long drive should be able to get in and out by 6:30am and get back to work. It would be a long day but worth it if that is the clinic you trust and feel comfortable with.

It is important to have a clinic you feel confident with, but at the same time the drive could be a pain. I am 10 min from my clinic and at one point I was seeing my RE everyday since I was overstimulating.

My clinic is approximately two hours away. However, I was able to go to a satellite office thirty minutes away for all of my blood work and ultrasounds. I will only have to drive to the clinic for the ER and ET.

Thank you for everyone's input!

If you feel good with your team of drs its worth the travel

I have a clinic in my town but I went there one time and was not comfortable. I travel 2 hours to get to mine now. So, on each trip I spend 4 hours in my car. However, I have peace of mind with my doctor and everyone at the clinic is wonderful. It is well worth the drive.

I agree with everyone else. Peace of mind is priceless! I travel 2 hours and 45 minutes one way to my dr. It makes for a long day but I love my dr.

How about Women and Infants? That's where I go and I like them a lot. Everyone is always very nice. The IVF schedule does get pretty hectic, and does depend somewhat on your employer. Mine has always given me time off, but I'm always able to get back to work. If I were doing Boston, I'd never be able to just take an hour or so and get back to work. As bad as I want a baby, I can't afford to lose my job and my life over it. Good luck to you.

I drive close to 60 miles each way as well and sometimes it's only for monitoring and the whole appt. lasts a total of 20 minutes! It wears on me because it's a solo ride up and back b/c DH's works in the other direction. But you make the best of it - iPod totally helps! It's my only option and I'm comfortable with the Dr. and his staff so it's hard to switch even if something should open up closer to home. It helps that I have an incredibly understanding boss at work that allows mornings to be flexible for me ....keep on truckin' - it will all be worth (at least that's what I keep telling myself these days)

I'm trying to exercise daily. I was doing fairly well until I sprained my ankle 2 weeks ago but now I'm getting back on the horse. Today I walked over a mile with my arm weights that are about 22lbs total. I was out of shape and it was hard on my arms. I also did my 30 situps. I'm also going to drink a lot of water and try to eat healthy. I do tend to have a sweet tooth but I'm cutting...
