I do not have PCOS (my issues are different, and have a strong male factor) but have of course read about it in passing here and on my other board. I never really knew what it was. Now my cousin, who is 14, has been diagnosed with it after going to the dermatologist and complaining about these bumps under her arms. That led to more appts and blood tests and doctors but now I guess she has it. According to the dr., they have probably caught it early enough to prevent her infertility. She has changed her diet to whole foods, no sugar, no wheat, etc, and started hormone pills.
Do any of you who have been through this know anything else that can save this poor little girl from future infertility? Is there anything else she can do? Her mom, who had no previous experience w/infertility until becoming my 1-woman support system, has been scouring the internet for info.
Thanks in advance.

I've never heard of that. Hopefully, changing her diet and taking hormones will help her to not suffer as we are.

I was diagnosed with PCOS when I was 16. The dr sure didn't mention that anything could be done to prevent infertility problems. Pretty much told me that when i was ready to have children that we would do something about it then. Then again... I ended up switching gyno's a few years later because she really wasn't very helpful with other issues. If i would have know things to do, you can beat i would have. I hope your cousin can prevent it or at least learn how to manage it so she will have an easier time getting pregnant when she's ready.

i was diagnosed with PCOS when I was 19 because since i was sixteen i'd been on birth control. but anyway, i was never told i would be infertile, i was simply told that if and when i decided to have kids i'd just need some assistance. diet change and other healthy life styles could somewhat reverse some of what PCOS causes though.

I'm trying to exercise daily. I was doing fairly well until I sprained my ankle 2 weeks ago but now I'm getting back on the horse. Today I walked over a mile with my arm weights that are about 22lbs total. I was out of shape and it was hard on my arms. I also did my 30 situps. I'm also going to drink a lot of water and try to eat healthy. I do tend to have a sweet tooth but I'm cutting...
