Yesterday I went to see an RE for the first time and got the ball rolling on starting IVF. Both my husband and I had blood work taken for disease screening and I had a pelvic exam. They didn't tell me I needed to come w/ a full bladder so when they did a test of trying to get the tube in my uterus it won't work b/c they couldn't get to it. That didn't hurt, but it wasn't comfortable.
I can read all the papers I want describing IVF and everything I have to do to prepare, but I am hoping to get some honest opinions from those who have gone through it before. I am pretty terrified. I am deathly afraid of needles, have zero tolerance for pain. I have to go next week on day 3 of my cycle to have some more blood work and some type of x-ray of my uterus (I forget the name of it). They looked yesterday and said I could release a dozen or so eggs when they do the stimulation.
I just really need some kind of peace of mind right now. Please let me know what to expect and it made you feel. Feel free to message me, too. Thanks!
Hope everyone has a blessed weekend.

I'm trying to exercise daily. I was doing fairly well until I sprained my ankle 2 weeks ago but now I'm getting back on the horse. Today I walked over a mile with my arm weights that are about 22lbs total. I was out of shape and it was hard on my arms. I also did my 30 situps. I'm also going to drink a lot of water and try to eat healthy. I do tend to have a sweet tooth but I'm cutting...
We took our injection class, practiced giving injections and then they ordered all the meds. I never expected the big box that arrived in the mail. But like someone else said, you do it one step at a time.
I went in for day 21 labs (to be sure I ovulated) then started Lupron shots the following morning. That continued until 10 days of using Lupron and AF came. Then we lowered the Lupron shots in the morning and I used Gonal-F at night. They were both easy to use since the Lupron is premixed and the Gonal-F was a dial up pen.
I think around day 7 on stims, I went in for U/S and blood work. I was called with instuctions to continue and went back 2 or 3 more times for U/S and lab work. Then on 10th day after starting stims, they called with results and told me what time to do hCG (trigger) shot. I was scheduled for ER 36 hours from the time of my shot.
The hCG was a bit more work since it was a powder that needed to be mixed. But, I got through it and moved on to ER.
The ER was tough for me and I was in a lot of pain after. But that is not the case for all women. The woman in the bed next to me had no pain meds and was up walking around before she left.
I was taking antibiotics, Medrol (to keep swelling down) estrace (estrogen) and baby aspirin after ER.
Three days after ER we went back for ET. They used two 8-cell embryos. They gave me a picture of the two of them. It was amazing!
I think I started progesterone shots that night and continued until my beta test. Unfortunately, I did not get pregnant so am going through it all again now. There were some slight changes with the meds, but I am still in Lupron stage.
I found it went by pretty quick after starting stims. The 2ww after ET was the hardest part. Well, except for the results.
The shots really are not that bad, except for progesterone, but even those get easier. You will get through it one step at a time and we are all here for you!
